I'll add my info here. I'm starting to see the problem at 1900 miles. The VIN is #015615, build date 02/02. I'm taking it in tomorrow for a first look by the dealer.

VIN#000165
12,400miles
9/1/2002 purchased

Dealer replaced front tires on 4/18/2003 under warranty(TSB)
Also did an alignment. Total cost to Nissan was around $580~

I agree that Nissan will probably work on a solution to this problem since the cost of warranty will be enormous if they keep replacing the front tires...until the warranty runs out..

Hopefully we'll hear something soon.

VIN 002533
Build Date 08-10-2002
Miles 11,800

At ~7000 miles the front tires were replaced, alignment done to full toe out as defined by original Nissan spec.

At ~10,000 miles the feathering had returned, Nissan Tech instructed dealership to swap tires per the TSB and then do a new alignment. This time to Nissan Tech instructed the dealer to set the toe-out beyond the original spec.

At 11,800 feathering is already noticable to the touch.

VIN #000368
Case Complaint #4069344 (2nd)
Purchased Sep 02

TSB applied at 6000 miles in Feb 03 due to heel-toe feathering circumferentially around tire on inside tread blocks. TSB required swapping front tires putting the "feathered" tread blocks on the outside. TSB also required alignment. Dealer performed front tire swap and performed a 4-wheel alignment to put it into the center of the specs.

By 8000 miles in Mar 03 the inside tread blocks once again had heel-toe feathering circumferentially around tire. Outsides were still feathered, possibly even worse. Dealer checked alignment, alignment was within specs. Dealer performed 4-wheel alignment anyways to put alignment more in the center of the specs.

Default Tires replaced and 4k miles so far

I've had all tires replaced at 14k and at 18k right now. I have not noticed any "cupping" yet. I do feel constant vibration in the steering wheel tho. Please let me know if that is normal. I can try to find the alignment info if you'd like.

You should not have a constant vibration in your steering wheel. Did it vibrate from when you put on new tires? If it did, your balance job was not correct. If your installer can't get it done right, take it to a shop that uses Hunter balancing, its the best I've found.

Misalignment is not the cause of wheel vibration, poor balancing does it. It could be on just one wheel. I ran over a curb recently and got a steering wheel vibration. My installer added 1/4 oz. to the wheel and the vibration was gone.

Is there a lemon law section in this forum? If not maybe it would be a great idea to begin one so that we can learn from our individual experiences with regards to the lemon law. It is obvious that nissan does not have a fix, becasue they have admitted it to me several times. They suggest that I hang in there and wait for a fix, trust them they said. Well I am not going to continue driving a noisy unsafe vehicle with worn tires and pulling to the right on the highways. I am also not going to park my car at home and continue paying for it. If you have not gotten this far with your nissan troubles you will. Once again I suggest a lemon law section in this forum, because if you are assuming that nissan really cares you are wrong. TRUST ME !!!!

Default Our Tires are "Cupping" not "Feathering"

http://www.discounttire.com/dtc/broc...kAlignment.jsp

I just wanted to give this link out that I received from Enforcer who explained to me what might be the cause of our tires cupping.

It may be caused by "Incorrect Caster Setting" = Excessive shoulder wear; tread blocks show "heel-toe" wear pattern. (Caster is important to steering feel and high-speed stability.)

This would also make sense in why Nissan has been SLOW in giving us a fix!
It would be a "design flaw" (since are cars have NO caster adjustment) and not an "equipment problem." (ie. springs, tires, struts, control arms, etc...)

If it were an equipment problem I am sure it would be cheaper for Nissan to just give us new (springs, struts, control arms, etc...) then giving us new tires every 5000 - 6000 miles.

Count me in too... I just completed my 3rd oil change (7800 miles), and I have noticeable feathering on both front tires...I haven't looked closely at the rears, but there's obvious problems in the front. My ride has gotten alot worse in the past couple months too, and I was hoping it wasn't serious, but apparently I was wrong...I have the load "roar" when my I am slowing down and with speeds under 30 mph. I am going to see the dealer later thsi week, and he wants to see my feathered tires.

THIS SUXX!

Default Case # 4230229

I've had 2 alignments, the right control arm replaced and the tires swaped - The Z no longer drifts to the right (thank god) however, I still have some wheel hop and road noise at low speeds. NNA left me a message this morning to follow up on my repairs. I'm going to report the positive and negative. I'm also going to request new tires when I call them back tomorrow....

Default My Issue UPDATE

I just got a call from Nissan yesterday. They are finally going forward with the test of putting Michilen Pilots on my Z.

I know! I have heard from some of you that have gone through this and "new tires does not solve the feathering/cupping issue". But I have also read by two different people that it did work. So, I am going to hope for the best and at the very least it will be one more data point in which to study the dynamic between tires vs. struts vs. castor vs. springs etc...

Below is the growing list of fellow 350Z owners who I am in touch with who ALL have the feathering/cupping issue. I thought it may be good to update those that are new to this string. There are power in NUMBERS!

Please add me to this list, I cna give you pertinent email address, contact numbers, etc, if needed.

VIN#: 5309 NNA Case #:4248428

I am going to the dealership tomorrow so they can look at my tires. I am going to demand new rubber, but I really want to know that the feathering issue is fixed first...I will be following up with my NNA rep tomorrow afternoon, after my visit to the dealership.

Please let us know how the Michelin Pilots work out long term, 4k+ miles...
