Default More updates...

I decided to get an unbiased, non-Nissan opinion about my tire issues, and I really wanted to know why my back tires have only 4/32" of tread left across the entire wheel with only 8k miles. So, I took my Z to National Tire and Battery... BIG Mistake !!!!!!

I made 2 trips in there for them to look at the problem, the first trip was a waste b/c they told me to drive down since they weren't busy, but when I got there they were slammed with people. So, I tried again last week, and Friday was not too bad for them since Isabel jsut finished going through the area. They told me about 1 hour to pull 2 wheels and check for anything suspicious. They were going to pull the front left, and right rear, and dismount both tires checking for proper balance or anything that could be leading to excessive wear or feathering. I made sure to tell them that my rims were soft, and that I would be inspecting them for damage when I returned to pick it up...

They called me after about 50 minutes, and told me my problems were related to improper balancing from the factory. Overall, all 4 of my tires were 3-4 degrees out of balance, which they felt has caused most of my excessive wear on the rear tires. The front was out of alignment from the factory, plus the improper balance issues, which I am sure has led to the feathering problems. I now have paperwork stating that my tires were not balanced properly from the factory.

Here is where my problems come in, and I am sure you guessed it by now...my left front rim is totally bitched up. It has 3 or 4 scuffs/scars around the outer rim edge, from prying with a tire iron I assume. Then, around 1 of the wheel hubs lugs, both sides of the cylinder, is dented and scarred. After I found the damage in their parking lot, I went back in to complain, and they sent out the tech that did the *****-up job on my rim. He basically asked me to point out the damage, and he felt it with his hand and went back inside all pissed off. I followed him in, he basically admitted that he must have done it, and the girl at the counter said that she could not speak for the manager, but said that they would probably have to buy me a new rim. I am pissed, and after I went through extensive measures to make sure that this did not happen, it did anyways. What a waste.

In the meantime, while I wait for new fronts from Nissan, I have written a letter of complaint to Bridgestone. I wanted to make sure that they knew that I wasn't real happy about getting 8k miles on a set of tires. I am now waiting for the news from NTB about my rim, and I will have to wait for everything to come together before I can do anyhting with the tires. I am hoping to hear back from Bridgestone, and get a new rims, plus my 2 new fronts from Nissan by mid October, but things never come together that well for me.

I will post any further follow-ups, as they occur...

Put me on the list, too.

VIN 9074
Currently 5450 miles
Car built in 11/02, delivered 1/03
Dealer: Star Nissan in Niles, IL
I asked the dealer to check for abnormal wear at 3750 miles and they said wear is even and normal.
I'm not experiencing markedly noisier stops from ~30-40mph down and I get a ton of roar on cracked or asphalt pavement. I still can't see any overt visible signs of feathering but the noise is enough.
