Unhappy Technical Gurus: Did I hurt my Z?

Well, I was at a stop light. I accelerated and try to put it in 2ng gear, and it wouldn't go. It made an aweful grinding noise. I've grinded gears in the Z twice b4, but this wasn't a little buzz. It sounded ugly. Then at the next stoplight I got pissed off. WIth my foot off the clutch, I forced it into second gear out of anger, and the car stalled. Could I have done any permanent damage to my Z? I'm obsessive about hurting my car. I always think I'm going to hurt it and make it slower :P So, what do you guys think?

Oh and another question:

YOu ever horse an automatic, and you get that burning smell (no, [b]not[/b[ the catylitic converter smell) ? Well when I accelerate hard on the Z, it gets that smell almost every time. A guy on the other message board says his never smells. I'm pretty sure because 1.) it's not a burning clutch smell (beause I know how to shift), and 2.) I've smelled the smae thing in autos.

I would appreciate any input,
Thanks,
Phile

Well I am not a guru but you are working and messing up your transmission and flywheel. Putting into second with the clutch is not good for the transmissiona nd you will hear it complain as it grinds, that being said you could possible get it into gear if everything is lined up therfore no grind, but then since you probably were not applying gas at the same time the car stalled. No harm probably just curious why it didn't go into second to begin with.

Well, that was the first time it happened to me in second. It's happened in 3rd about 3 times though. As I depress the clutch, and shift up to 3rd, it's like the shifter hits a wall on its way up. So only happened 4 times total. I have ~2000 miles on my Z. I just figured maybe I didn't depress the clutch enough (I usually go all the way to the floor though). I am going to tell my Nissan dealership though. Just in case there is a synchro problem. Cuz when I experimented with depressing the clutch lightly (not all the way to the floor), the shifter still went into gear. It's like the synchros don't engage fast enough sometimes....if that makes any sense at all. Bare in mind I know nothing about a transmission.
