Figures. As soon as I get it to the shop the problem goes away. I know if I have to bring it home it is going to happen right away, I'll have it towed and it will start right up again once it hits the shop.

Frustrating.
You have an intermitent sensor problem probably, Im surprised your not throwing a code. Dont put yourself in a compromising position til you find it.

BTW ..... My 03 has NEVER failed me or been to the dealer for anything. 62,000 miles

Very happy with my '03. Certainly not disappointed.

Nope. Not throwing any codes. I checked it and so did the dealership. The only major problem I have had with this car besides the current problem is that for three years in a row I have taken the car in because the drivers side window won't stay up and they have to fix it.

Other than that i am happy with my Z.

I just want it fixed so I can get it back!!

I cant speak for myself and my 03, but i just turned 12k miles and the only 2 problems i have are the feathering of the tires and window motor streaks. at at 12k spirited driving miles (i mean really pushing the motor/car to its limmites every day im out in it, its holding up to the abuse very well infact. as it should for a sports car. Sports cars havent been known for their reliability... but dont expect to take a car to the track and be driving back home in the car. I hope you get all that straighted out though. keep on the dealers ****. if its fine when you bring it there. arange a ride or use a 2nd vehicle if you have one and leave it their until the problem comes back so you can get it fixed, get on their **** and stay put there. Good luck

The car has been at the dealer since last Wednesday. I did tell them to hold on to it until they can figure it out. I have my truck that I am driving until I get my Z back.

I am going to call them tomorrow to see what is going on.

Thanks everyone.

Ok I have the same issue as Penguin. I have had this problem off and on for about 3 months now. When the motor just turns and doesn't start I click the key back into the off position and turn the alarm on then off again. Starts every time. This tells me there is a problem with the chip in the key or with the alarm not getting the signal to turn the power to the coil on. Im going to replace my key fob and key and see if that helps. Im almost positive one of those is the problem.

Hear you buddy, mine does this frequently. Drives me nuts. Every single time, it will only start on the 3rd attempt to start, but I have to leave it for a minute or so which is damn inconvient, always happens when I'm in a hurray too. Oh mine Z is an 04, birthdate is Sept 03 though.

I've got a few key fobs, and it happens regardless, it's not the after market alarm either as mine first did this the morning before the after market alarm went in.

Keep us posted Penguin. Will be interesting to see if you get a resolve.

It's happened to me a few times. When it happenes I usually disconnect the battery for a few minutes. After I reconnect the battery, she starts right up. I need to get her to the dealership quick, I just hit 51000 miles. Other than this problem and the axle click I've started to get recently, she runs like a champ.

Update:

Car still at the dealership. They just can't seem to duplicate the problem. They are going to still hold onto the car.

I will keep everyone posted.

Thanks

Update:

The car was at the dealership for over 2 weeks. They could not duplicate the problem. I finally deceided to bring her home. I will have to wait until it happens again and then have it towed to the shop.

What bothers me, is that they were suppose to have someone drive the car while it was there. Yet in more than two weeks they only put 29 miles on the car. Hardly an effort to try and duplicate the problem. They said they tried to start it about 3 times a day and it started every time.

Sorry I couldn't give others hope just yet.

Let me know if anyone else finds a solution.

Thanks for all the help.

Buy the way, i told my dealership that there are others out there that are looking at the same problem.

If anythin happens, I will keep everyone posted.

More than likely it's the battery. The thing is 5 years old.

It happened to me three times in the last two weeks. Once before I went on vacation for a week and twice after. Took 2 turns the first two times to crank and three time the other time. Felt weak when I tried to turn it over. It wouldn't consistently give me problems.

The battery is 5 years old so I went ahead and changed the battery out Sunday. Got a Duralast Gold from Autozone. Cost $70 something. They also had a regular for $50. What a difference! Pretty easy to change out except old battery doesn't have straps to handle. Better than getting stranded somewhere. The liquid level on the old battery was close to the low line...guess I could have tried to fill it with distilled water but for $50-$70 not worth the trouble.
