Yes this issue has been covered by several. I thought I would add some things:

My car does it the loudest of anyone else’s I have heard (about 5). It sounds rotational or mechanical . . .and not rubbing body panels.

Called Nissan and complained that the dealer was not investigating the issue as I wished. They contacted the dealer and conference called back to me and wanted to set up a time where I bring my car in and they will have a fresh off the truck Z to compare and prove it is normal.

WTF , I don’t care if it is normal, I am 99% positive that there is something wrong. My car makes enough noise to make heads turn in a parking lot. I can even hear it with the radio on and at moderate volume.

I agree, there is something wrong it is getting louder and doing it more often, I jacked the car up yesterday and checked and did not see anything lose and checked all bolts for tightness and nothing, I am wandering if it is the tranny as I am starting to get the 3rd gear grind and the noise started to get louder lately.

I am goingn to try and stop by the dealer to see if they can check it out today.

I came from there and the tech heard it as he stood outside the car and he said it wasn't normal, I am droping it off tomorrow morning for him to play with all day so we will see.

It is so bad now that I can make the noise at will, just start from a standstill whether forward or reverse and you will hear these clicking noises like metal clanking against metal. He heard it and it is coming from both sides around the rear wheel area.

We'll see tomorrow, these guys are great about listening and going to Nissan tech for help, they were the ones that first diagnosed the front end clunk I had last September being one of the first with it.

mine sounds like there is a cricket sitting in my trunk. I hear it everytime when I'm on a bumpy road or on the freeway....
Just haven't had time to go to the service center for them to check it out....

I have the same problem. Mine was at the dealer all day friday and is there now as well. I have to pick it up by 3 today so I hope they have found something. I was looking at it yesterday and when I pushed on the center caps it made a similar sound. I wonder if the plastic center caps are flexing or something under load and making that sound? Just a thought. I might have them remove those and then drive it. It annoys the hell out of me.

Yeah it seems to be a common problem. I know mine did not do it when it was brand new. Now after 13,000 miles it is a problem. Everyone please keep everyone else posted on the results of your service and diagnosis.

I also have a very anoying squeek coming from the door jam that sounds like the weather stripping is rubbing up against the door. It is so bad now it does it the whole time I am driving. It really kinda makes me think the door is loose. Scary thought...

You may have the same problem that I had and just had recently fixed.

I had what sounded like a very loud cricket noise coming from the trunk area. I also was getting a rattle (loose cable) noise from the same area.

I took my car in last week to get this, and a 456 MIL light fixed. On the way to the dealership the MIL turned off (after it being on for two weeks solid) and they could find no record of it in memory. What luck!

At first the techs could not hear the squeak or rattle, so I had to go back in and drive it with one of them.

Together we located both the cricket sounding squeak and rattle as eminating from inside the plastic panel that covers the underside of the hatch.

We were able to make the squeak happen by pressing slightly to the left of the bulge on the RHS where the rear wiper motor is housed, and the squeak would then eminate from somewhere just left of center of the panel.

The techs fixed this problem in a day by removing the hatch door and pillar panels and installing foaming tape and adjusting the fasten clips.

It was well worth doing it. The squeak had been curtailing my enjoyment of the car for several weeks, and I could even hear the squeak and rattle over a cranked up stereo or windows down.

Now it's totally solid and silent, no squeak or rattle whatsoever (thanks Town North Nissan!), even though at times I *think* I can still hear it because I got so used to hearing it!

Good luck!

Well, I just talked to them and they still havent found it. They did come across another squeak that they said was the bushing somewheere in the rear suspension(swaybar?). They fixed that and I get a loaner until they find the other.

z_brit: Mine sounds like it is definitely coming from outside the car. Like underneath. I will try what you said, but I dont think that is where it is.

Nothing really happened, they think it might be the axles and gears having some play, apparently they had the same issue with the Z31's which they fixed by tightening the hub nut to a higher torque, which they tried with mine but it still did it, so he is going to talk to Nissan and see if they have any other input or to order new axles.

Last night at the shop I was trying to diagnose it again. This time I left the car in gear with hand brake off and rocked the car back and fourth by hand, this demonstrates the noise quite well.

ANYONE ever figure out what the fix is for this problem? Mine is for SURE coming from the outside of the car. I can just rock my car back and forth and get it to creak around the rear wheels/hub area.

For those who have the sound outside of the car, is your e-brake engaged? Mine will do it when the e-brake is on and I exit the car it creaks, or I can push the car from the back and it creaks as well, I believe that it's just the pads creaking on the rotor.

The cricket sound is probably the interior hatch panel rubbing against the black coating on the rear window. Mine did the same thing. I squashed Jiminee Cricket as soon as I found it. Mine was on the upper side of the panel; passenger side.
