Default Glass Scratch Removal

Hi Guys,

Well I took my car in to get the windows tinted, and they called me back saying the rear window could not be done because it was covered in Welders Slag. They said nothing could be done about this, except replacing the rear window and then tinting that. So I called around the various local glass shops, and the cheapest quote I got was USD $1,100.

Well I wasn't going to go ahead with that, so I canceled the tint and had a closer look for myself when I got home. There is no Welders Slag at all, because am pretty sure that leaves slight protrusions on the glass, whereas my rear window is covered with intrusions, like deepish scratch marks.

I have no idea what has caused these scratches, but there is roughly 100-150 of them, all about 1mm long and only visible at a certain angle under high lighting, but they all can be felt very slightly with the fingernail.

I searched these forums, and suggestions such as nail polish, scratchX remover were basically the only things I could find, and don't really relate to my problem. I have tried Cut No.2 Polish, and it looks abit better than before, but the majority of the scratches are still visible.

Sorry for the long story, but my question is does anyone have any ideas/help on how I can get these scratches out? Remember they are in the inside of the glass, thanks.

What about taking your Z to a few glass places and see if they can do something to help, other than replacing the whole screen. Just guessing maybe they could use some of the sealing compound they use on stonechips as that obviously fills. Don't know about a whole screen though.

Very outside idea, probably won't work, but an idea.

Have you tried some Rainex or Prestone window disperant on the effected window?? Reason being it will very slightly fill striations on the glass. With the window tinting, do they use a window cleanser/treatment before the tint goes on???

Yea I tried calling a few glass shops, and they have told me that their machines don't work on the inside of the glass, because the curve goes against the angle they have their machines set up? Something like that anyway, thanks for the reply, I have read somewhere that Diamond Powder might be useful, so might try that. My only worry is I could damage the heating lines running across the glass.

Maybe a very large and angry insect got stuck in your car and was trying to claw its way thru the glass.
