Default Rear Axle 'click' + Warranty

2003 Black 350z - 48K Miles
Ok, first off I just started noticing the clicking sound in my rear axle, sounds like the right side. I'm already convinced and know its the rear axel TSB. Called the dealer up (Sheridan Nissan, DE) on Monday and I talked to the Service Manager (Mark) and he said to bring it in and it will be done at COB.

My first reaction was awesome!

Then he said it would cost $89

not bad but why doesn't the powertrain warranty cover it?

It's more of an adjustment then a replacement.

So I bring it in on Wednesday..
It gets better! According to the 'appointment girls' and some guy named Ed I need an appointment and that I never had one to begin with. Got a real nasty attitude from both, they say they can fit me in on Thursday (tomorrow). I told them that it was fine and I left them the keys, he printed me up a sheet and made me sign the usual..

The mechanic (Bruce) calls me up later on around 2PM and says that it is infact the Rear Axel and that there is a recall on my Fuel Hose.

Here comes the best part... they are now wanting to charge me $400 to fix the Rear Axel or $89 for Diagnosing it if I don't want them to fix it.

When Mark heard of this he looked outraged, like myself, and he said he was going to take care of this, but I don't think he is trying to put it onto the warranty..

I brought them the TSB and still no luck. What can I do to have him grease this thing up and torque a few screws all under the warranty?

P.S. I've been searching these forums for the last hour and half and have seen tons of threads but none that answers my question. Lay off the flaming please?

haha dude thats so weird, i took mine to hertrich nissan (dover,de) and they sayd that theyll look into it and see if it would be covered under warranty, then called back saying once they take it apart it may or may not be covered, theyd have to break it down and take apart the axle to let me know. thats the difference between free under warranty and the 400 dollar bill there trying to give you. i said i wasnt gonna have them do it and picked up my car. then the manager sayd, the only way it can be covered is if the axle breaks or theres major damage. bull****

How would you make them do it under the warranty? Anyone have any ideas?

DUDE, BRING IN THE WARRANTY MANUAL. IT SAYS AXELS ARE INCLUDED. It is not an adjustment, it lubricates and replaces nuts and bolts. duh. learn to argue and *****

my pass side axle clicked around 40k and i brought it into the dealer and they said that it isn't covered under warranty because mine ended at 36k but since it is a known issue he kept the car for the afternoon and when i came back he fixed both sides for free. So tell them whats up. I live in so cal and went to Quality Nissan in Temecula..Have them call the other dealer or go to another one..

The axle click is covered under powertrain warranty. I have submitted to Nissan and gotten paid by Nissan for 100's of these claims. I'm not bad mouthing any other dealers but from a Nissan dealer myself....It is covered.

I'm at 34k and my axles have been clicking too. Get this, they said that they aren't even going to lubricate it because I have coil overs installed and thus voids all warranty. I'm flaming pissed. Anyone have the issue of voided warranty?

nope, magnusson act, do a search online. it's illegal for them to void your warranty for things that is not related. stop getting rape, find another place and stop buying nissans!

I took my 2004 to my local stealership for the same issue. They had me sign for a $100 diagnostic charge to find out what the problem was. I told them I have a warranty, but he said I still have to sign. I repeated that I have a warranty and asked why it isn’t covered under the warranty. He told me that once they find out what the problem is they will check to see if it was covered under the warranty. I knew I was going to have a problem, but I wanted to get the problem fixed and I wanted to get back to work. I get a call a few hours later from the stealership, and they say it’s going to cost $180 to fix the axel, plus the $100 for the diagnostic. I ask him why it isn’t covered under the warranty and he says because nothing is broken. He says that they just need to grease it, and they don’t have to repair anything. I don’t tell him to start working on my car, and that I will call him back. I had to double-check the TSB to make sure I was correct, even though I already knew I was. I call him back and tell him about the TSB and he says the TSB doesn’t mean that it’s covered by warranty, and that they aren’t repairing anything because nothing is broken. I then tell him that the TSB does say it’s covered under warranty, and it even gives the claim number and description for the warranty claim. BTW, the description says, “Repair axel noise” even though the stealership says they don’t have to repair anything. He stuck to his position that it will not be covered by the warranty, and I ask him to connect me with someone to discuss my warranty because I would like to know exactly why this is not covered by my warranty and what is covered. He puts me on hold for 5-10 minutes, and then tells me that he will have to call me back. I get a call about 10 minutes later and he says that it is covered by warranty and they will start working on the car, no charge. I have a comprehensive warranty, and I guess he found that out. I have the best warranty they offer, but that sad part is I have to take it to the stealership to have any work done. I wish I lived near a reputable place like West Covina Nissan because I don’t trust the local stealership with my baby. END RANT. Sorry about the length.

I'm getting axle click too...not too bad so I don't care. I'd rather have the click rather than take it to some grease monkeys and mess w/ my car.

I can tell you that the rear axle clicking is a deficiency in materials and workmanship.
And that deficiencies in materials and workmanship are covered by warranty. But you know that already.

I just got mine done about two days ago.. it wasnt a big deal at all.. I took it to my guy and said hey, my axle is clicking, im not sure which one it is or both.. the dealer said, dont worry bout it as they are told to fix both at the same time anyways to save the trouble of doing it again or not getting the right one in the first place.. parts were overnighted and tah dah.. no more clicking.. warrenty all the way and no hassle at all.. 2005 35th ann with 15K on her.
