A/C compressor clutch bad
My A/C started to get less cool last summer. It pretty much blows hot air now. I took it to a mechanic and the clutch is gone on the compressor. They say since the splines don't look to good to get a new compressor. They are recommending changing the compressor and the receiver/drier, doing a flush, evac and recharge.
I just wanted to make sure, do I need to get the receiver/drier as well? Can someone give some estimates on how much/how long this should take? He initially quoted me $800 for the compressor, so I am rather skeptical of his quote.
Thanks!

Thats way steep for a compressor----Any time a system is opened for any length of time, replace the drier/accumulator, flushing and re-O-ringing is also needed.
Comp can be had for 500.00 or less----drier 55.00---Exp Valve if needed 45.00<<<<<<Thats dealer low ball---and for '04. After market may be starting to be available

Thanks for the info, I think I can find a compressor, but in terms of the accumulator, where can I get one for that price? The dealer I called said it would be $96.04. The $.04 meaning that the service guy is probably adding some arbitrary amount to the actual price. Is there a good place to get one online?

The 03 seems to be a bit more for some reason, but its the cheapest I've seen so thanks! Do you think about 3 hours time seems reasonable to replace both the compressor and accumulator?

Just to replace those parts, yes, but to flush, evac, and charge would take longer.------If the car was NA, I could do the compressor in......say pushing 1.5-2 hours, and that is new rings and making sure oil was up to capacity. and the drier in an hour I guess----but the drier is installed AFTER your hoses are hooked up to your Vac. Pump so you can install and immediatly apply vacuum
