Default Is it a good idea to change Tranny fluid early?

I've got almost 9,000 miles on my car. Nissan said to change it at 30,000 miles. I read that some people changed theirs early to put Redline fluid in and found metal shavings when they drained it. Do you think it's a waste of money to have it done early? I have a little bit of notchiness every now and again when the fluid is still cold. I'd like to put some Redline in eventually. Someone said they spent 120 to have redline put in, Nissan woud charge me 60.

just had my tranny and rear end diff oil changed at 17k. there was a lot of metal shaving for the diff oil plug, and i mean a lot! tranny plug and oil was ok. you don't have to wait until 30k to change the fluid, just my .02

Default Fluid Change

I think with the tranny it is probably better to be safe then sorry. I changed out the tranny with Redline fluids and got much better shifting performance so I was happy.

However I would STRONGLY suggest changing the diff. oil. When I did mine (and other have reported this also) there was a ton of metal particles stuck to the magnetic plug. I will probably change it again fairly soon just to make sure it is cleaned out.

I'm at 3K and ready to change diff and tranny fluids. Seems everyone using Redline is mixing two different weights together. I was considering using AMSOil as they offer a 75W-90 that is GL-2 thru GL-5 rated. Seems like it would serve both purposes. Anyone using AMSOil or have other feedback?? I'm running AMSOil 5W-30 in the VQ and love it.

How hard is it to replace the tranny fluid? Do you have to use some sort of pump?

Default Replacing fluid

Changing the tranny fluid is pretty simple. You will need a hand pump which can be bought at most auto parts stores for less then $10. Otherwise you will also need ramps or jack and jack stands to the car in the air.

Other then that nothing to it.
