Default Blown Starter

So i'm leaving my friend's house last night and my Z wouldn't turn over. All the lights and everything came on, the fuel pump came on and the battery gauge said that the volts were normal. I checked every fuse and reset the computer doing everything I know to try and still nothing. I had progressive tow my car to the Nissan dealer close by and they looked at it for 5 hours not believing that it was the starter since they've never replaced one in the z. They took it out and said it was completely blown. Since they've never had to replace one they have none in stock and have to overnight it with a total cost of 600 dollars. This kind of makes me upset since my car only has 37k miles on it and i've never had one problem with it. Don't starters normally give some sort of notice that they're gonna blow soon? Ive never had any problems starting the car or heard any odd noises
