Default me too

Same exact thing happens to me when it's cold, goes away after 5 minutes. It is definately something to do with the transmission. Next time you hear it, push in the clutch or take it out of gear and it will go away until you put it back in gear. I'm going to the stealership soon for an oil change, hope to leave it over night so the tech can drive it cold.

I too have had these problems. At first I thought my window wasn't closing all the way (again) when I heard the "whistle" noise. It's been pretty cold in Dallas lately...

I have an 06 with 10K miles and the only thing that whistles is the popcharger.

Unfortunately, the sound isn't coming from the intake... The popcharger whistle is from all the air getting sucked in without a box muffling it. It's more of a whiny noise for me. I have a 2004.0 Coupe with 45K miles btw...

Default My whistling just started...

About three weeks ago my whistling started on my '04 touring 6 spd, 31K miles. At first I thought a window was slightly open, so I rolled them both up and down and the whistling went away. Then it happened again and I rolled them up and down before the three or four minute/one mile threshold went by and the whistling was still there.

If I drive it to work and it has been garaged for more than 24 hours, I get the whistle. The ambient air temp has ranged from 50 to 70 degrees, so I don't think it has anything to do with how cold the air temp is, rather how cold the engine is. When I drive home from work, nine hours later, there has been absolutely no whistling.

I read all of your posts and called my Nissan service manager. He hasn't heard of such a thing. I told him of all of the posts I read and that he must have heard something! He said I need to bring it in. I told him that I would have to bring it in one morning and for him to make sure that it sits, unstarted for at least 24 hours or it won't happen.

Am I going to be the first guinea pig or has somebody else already tried that or found a dealer/shop with the answer?

would the pilot bushing in the tranny be covered under the powertrain warranty..I have a 04 and bumper to bumper is expired...also did they say how long they would need the car to fix this?

They will have to pull your trans, clutch and flywheel im guessing its not covered because its a "ware" item. Might as well wait till its time to switch out your clutch.

Well that just sucks...Anybody know how bad this is for the tranny?

I've made it to 45k miles on my 04.0 without any issues, but I guess it was bound to show up. I believe my factory power train warranty is still good, 5 yr / 60K miles right? Maybe I can slide in a flywheel/clutch upgrade while I'm at it, but I fear that the pilot bushing is actually part of the clutch assembly (it probably is)..... which would suck...

Anyone know how long my car would be gone?

it will probly take someone a day or two to finish unless they have done if a bunch of times. As for it being bad for the car im not sure i would have to see if it is actually distroying the bushing or if it is just some harmonic.

Cool, I'm going to wait awhile before taking it to the dealer since this symptom is a little hard to replicate. It can only get better or worse right? .....right?

Mine makes a noise like a freaking roots blower when it's below 30. It stops after about 1/2 mile of driving. I think it's the shifter, b/c putting pressure on the shifter stops it.

Mine has done this since new. Cold mornings for the first 1/2 mile or less.

I always assumed it was related to grease or tranny fluid not being warmed up yet.

Just curious what the outcome was. I have been having the same exact issues, can't get into first or second when cold, as well as the loud whistle/squealing noise when starting the car.

It was so loud, I woke everyone up.
