My car does this sometimes, the problem isn't the transmission though. It's the shifter linkage, which binds if you put too much sideways pressure on the shifter to get over to 5th.

The secret is to push over enough to get past the spring tension, but not so much that you are rubbing along the shifter gate as you try to find 5th.

I imagine some adjusting could be done, but I haven't tore it apart myself yet and I don't really trust the dealer that much to work on my car.

It does slow the shift up to 5th slightly since you can't just bang it in, but do you honestly need to be shifting hard into 5th?

8000 Mi = Warranty Issue. Even if it is small problem (or even common or insignificant) take it into the dealer so that it is documented. It may be insignificant but, if it becomes a larger problem at least you have shown diligence. Just my opinion.
