Default Z reliability? Hmmmmmm......

i have noticed alot of threads out there about people taking there z's back to the dealer because of tranny leaks window not lining up etc. I am ready to upgrade from a 90 supra t, to either a supra mkiv tt, or a 350z, all of these threads make me suspicious

Keep buying Toyota's, Nissan Z's are crap, one guy had a tranny problem out of all the people posting, alot of us have a greese streeks. Some people are getting feathering on Z's built mainly before December, these cars are crap! Toyota's V6's just have frequent head problems and that is minor right because it is a Toyota. Yes, Toyota pick ups, camerys, they are having problems. Toyota mechanics are telling me their lots are full with them.

Actually, out of owning Fords, GM's. Mopars, the only decent cars I have owned are Nissans. Everyone I have owned has lasted over 200K.

If you like the Z, go buy one. Most of us love our rides and have few, if any, problems,

I put 400k miles on my last 2 Z's combined - the fact you see some many old Z's on the road attests to their reliability.

Well, I haven't put that many miles on the 350Z yet, but my mom's 280ZX had the engine replaced at over 500,000 miles, and it turns out that only the head needed replacing. She still has the original tranny in it, too. Neither the engines or the tranny have been rebuilt, and she dogs the car too. It keeps going and going.

The thing you have to be careful of when browsing web forums is that most people post their problems to try to get help/advice. There are not many people that will post with "I had no problems this week". There are cars out there that have problems. Its a first year car, and its bound to happen regardless of mfr. (A friend of mine had to have the main computer controller replaced in his brand new MB after it left him stranded). The thing to get a feel for is how major are the problems and how are they being delt with.

Grease streaks are irritating to some (I didn't even notice mine until someone pointed it out to me, so they aren't that bad). Bad trannies are a big deal, but they have been few and have been readily replaced by nissan.

The only issue that Nissan has fallen down on is the tire feathering. Personally I am planning on upgrading to the S-Tune suspension (which supposedly resolves that problem) when it comes out, so I have not been persuing the matter, but I would be very irratated if I wasn't going that route. It seems that the later produced cars are not suffering from the feathering, but it may just be that they don't have enough miles yet. It is the only issue out there right now that would give me second thoughts if I were currently in the market.

In the 9 months I have had my Z it has been back to the dealer exactly once, to have the front tires replaced, aligned and the window grease problem fixed. Done. Maybe the tire wear problem is not completely addressed, time will tell, but I expect Nissan will get it right. Since I have a very low VIN number I think that is pretty darned good.

i feel reassured after reading this post; My D.B. 350Z will be arriving shortly and i started to regret not waiting for the 2004(although i dont know if anything has been corrected/changed.Any input?) but it seems like i can expect to be satisfied and hopefully problem free. June 29th, cant wait.

Ok, this is a first year production car... of course there are problems. I am an engineer myself, and there is just no way to foresee and test for every single problem. When you start producing thousands of cars, and people drive them thousands of miles, some problems will pop up. I am sure the 04 and 05 model will have significantly less problems. Myself and the others who have purchased the Z do not regret it. I think all of us would make the same choice and buy the Z again.
