Question 350Z 2003 Battery or Alternator Problem

Help!

I have 2003 Jap Import, with a Battery Light on.

Does anyone know what this means?

I have upgraded to Vortech Supercharger Small Pulley
Tein EDFC Suspension and ICE.

Also alot of extra gauages, I guess this is the cause, has anyone experienced the same and got over it?

Getting by using a optima charger.

According to the Owners Manual, that indicates that there is a problem with the charging system (alternator, etc.).

When the engine is running, what does the Voltage read in the triple gauges? If it's not in the 14V range, then the alternator is not putting out.

Its running a charge well over 14 volts, problem is battery keeps dying, I have a batcap that holds enough charge to start the car.

With the extra gadgets I think battery is getting drained.

I was thinking the Alternator is working over time? I have just been quoted on a 200amp Alternator for $470 and $100 dollars shipping to UK - custom built for direct bolt on.

If you look at the my profile shows mods to the car.

If it's showing 14 volts, then the alternator is putting out. You probably need to have the car hooked up to determine if the alternator is putting out enough to charge the battery and run the car. The problem could be in the electronics (regulator, etc.) that are preventing the battery from being charged.

I have the same issue. Killed 3 batteries now. Replacing the 3rd today. Its def something aftermarket wired into the car draining it. If I drive the car daily no problem, the alt cvharges fine. When it sits 5 days or more its done with. Even with a trickle charger battery dies, just slower.

Do you have access to a DMM? Ground one lead and put the other on the alternator post and read voltage. Then put that same lead on the positive battery terminal and read voltage. If the difference is less the .2v or so the alternator is charging the battery.

The next day before you start your car go post to post on the battery with the meter to check static voltage. You could have a problem with parasitic drain, ie a module not going to sleep, or accessories hooked up to constant 12v instead of switched 12v. Try these two things, report back and I can help you from there.
