Default Starting car after 6 months of none use? ? ?

Hey Guys,

Well I will be returning to the states shortly and I need some advice on how to get my car back to its normal self. Never had to have a car sit for this long a period of time.

Here is what as been done:
-Battery has been pulled
-Fuel stabilizer added to the gas tank

Mods Im concerned about
-Utec and its memory
-Turbo and engine

Now here are some of my questions and possible issues. I need to get the car up to GTM which is about 55 miles from my house. There I can get the car looked over again and have all the fluids flushed and be on the road again.

I'm concerned though about driving it up to GTM. I know you want to empty the tank of all the gas because of the additive, so I figured driving all the way up there shouldn't be a problem. Would there be any effect to the motor with burning off that tank of gas and the added effects of the turbo?

Has anyone ever had there EMS (Utec) unplugged for a long period of time? Should I be concerned about the state of the tune? Retune?

All in all, I'm I safe driving it up to GTM from my house or would it be safer towing her? (Which I really don't want to have to do because of the body work)

Thanks for the help

T

Strait to the point huh?

The only thing I'm kinda paranoid about is if the motor took a **** for whatever reason on the way up there, I would be pissed.

Coming back to a car with a blown motor FTL

well, the engine oil has all drained below the crankcase (oil pan). Your car sitting for 6 months would have the same effect as the time frame it took for the oil to drain down in your engine (i would say 1-2 weeks)

You will have to start your car anyways so oil will start to recirculate through the engine and turbo (if you have an oiled cooled turbo). I would be more worried about seals, etc.

Also, you don't have a saved map on your utec?

my car sits for a week or two every so often anyway. But this would be the first long period of time its sat around.

TN kit, so oil seals would be concern.

Saved Map? It was tuned by Sam, so whatever is in there I hope is still in there. Don't know enough about the memory in Utec.

i just got off the phone wiht my local Utec dealer. He said that the settings are stored in a non volatile memory. Only way to lose them is if you manually erased them. taking the battery terminal off will only reset your oem ecu. He also said that there are subarus that have been sitting at the back of his shop that hasn't been driven more than a year and there is no change in UTEC settings. He said he has never gotten a case where the UTEC goes back to its base settings.

I think you should be good.

Sweet thanks for the info SuperBlack.

So to recap

-Utec maps (Good)
-Gas additive will work it self out (Good)
-Oil will work its way back through the motor (Good)

(edit)

So the only adversely effected item might be the turbo.

Do blitz BCs lose there settings after losing constant power? Not to worried about this because the WG spring is 5 psi.

I went to sea for a long time and came back and started my car no problem. You should be fine. The gas would be my only concern but not a very big one.

Welcome back

+1 on this quote, you will be ok. I also asked Sam about disconnecting the battery since I only drive my car once/twice a month and he said it won't erase your UTEC tune.

Cool, I trust Sam's advice. Thats actually where the car is heading promptly after I get back.

Stock block and Turbo don't like each other to being with and not having the car ran for a good period of time was the thing that really concerned me the most.

Thanks though

I put in a fuel stabilizer for that reason.

But I guess you want to darn the tank and fill up with a clean tank as soon as possible.
