Default Rattle from Stabilizer Bar

I have an '03 Enthusiast with about 45k miles on it. There is a very annoying rattle that has started about a year ago and I am about to lose my mind. Turning up the tunes helps, but still drives me crazy! It sounds like it's coming from the stabilizer bar in the back hatch area. It sounds like a wire has come loose and is bouncing against metal in the crossover. Or perhaps it could be from the hatch door, as it's hard to tell while driving. It is coming from the right rear side of the car. Has anyone had this same problem? Please help me save my sanity!!

At least you have a fix for it. So far I don't think opening and closing my hatch door has done it, but I'll give it a try. I though perhaps it had to do with the emergency hatch door release, but now think perhaps not. Any ideas?

Blow the car up, pretty sure that'll stop the rattle.

yeah, find where exactly the rattle is coming from, i mean exactly where the two panels meet and stick a wedge in there. Will keep interior from vibrating together. Works wonder for your dash rattle also.

Actually this rattle metal on metal. It sounds like a wire became disconnected and the metal terminal is bouncing against the metal panel in the stab bar or in the hatch. I bought one of those stethiscope wands, but it's a ***** to try and use that while driving down the freeway! Guess I better enlist a friend to help out with this discovery process!

I had a similar problem awhile back. I took the plastic cover with the Z logo off and put duct tape on the steel strut brace in all the places where there was contact with wire connectors or hard plastic. Haven't had a squeak or rattle since.

What is the best way for removing this piece, any tips?

if it's the same problem I had it was a really high pitched squeek noise. Like you, I also just turned up the stereo, but one day I got really fed up and took off the z cover on the stabilizer and found out the noise was coming from the little plastic clip from the cover comin in contact with the metal of the bar. I used a bunch of electrical tape to fix it, it isn't pretty but it's not like you can see it with the cover on anyway, right?

My noise is not a high pitched squeak. It's a tapping noise, as if a wire is tapping on metal. So I tore apart all the plastic covers that cover up the stabalizer bar, and still can't find it. I even had my girlfriend sit back there with the hatch door up as I drove my car down the alley to see if she can find it. No luck! It's coming from inside the stab bar, right over the fender well. I can't get inside of the stab bar, unless I get my torch welder out! I may have to hand this project off to the dealer to find, as I am out of resources. Strange that no one else has experienced this. Probably these really bad roads here in Los Angeles don't help much!

You're not alone, my '06 has this same issue, comming from the strut tower area. Problem with mine, it's intermittant. I was thinking of tearing the plastic off and looking, I guess it will take me getting real pissed off one day to do it. LOL I also have a weird low frequency rattle that only occurs on certain pavement grades, the rough finish ones they do this way for traction in the wet, seems to be coming from either the passenger door or the right side of the dash; need someone to drive while I troubleshoot.

Yea, my rattle started out as an intermittent noise. That was about a year ago, and now it's there all the time. I never heard the other low freq rattle you are talking about. My rear view mirror has an occasional quiet vibration, but not too bad. A small tap on the mirror will usually stop it. Best of luck! Let me know if you find anything!

One of our members took the cover off of the rear strut brace, pasted foam padding cut into squares, then put it back together again.

I did pull the plastic off of the stabalizer bar, but it seems to be coming from inside the actual metal. It's not a plastic sound, it's metallic. Still looking to corner one of my friends to drive the car while I am in the back and listen to the exact location of the noise. Geez, this is really frustrating!

Not really, but just pull out the locking fingers gently. The plastic latches can break off quite easily.

Ya i took mine off of my 06' Z start with the top two pieces that are closest to the outside of the car then work your way to the front and rear then top and bottom, but remember that there are bolts in the bottom and some plastic anchors so dont just start pulling cause they will break !! TAKE YOUR TIME

Did you take off your rear wiper? cause if you did it might be the plastic clip bouncing around in there

There was another thread on this same topic that I posted in. We have seen several that have a metalic ticking coming from inside the strut bar. We have found on all of them broken welds where the right side piece is attached to the inner body of the corner panel. May be what some of you are after.
