Turn-around time for tranny install?
Well, finally, I can reproduce my tranny problem. In the past, I've really only had trouble getting it into 3rd gear, but as of this afternoon, the car is now grinding when I upshift into 3rd. My problem is this: I have to work later the next several days, and won't be able to drop off the car at the dealer until Friday, and I leave the evening of July 3rd to go to Lake George for the weekend. In addition, I have a track event immediately thereafter at Watkins Glen. So my question: what kind of turn around time can I expect after they diagnose the problem, authorize a new tranny, order the tranny, and install the tranny? Thanks.
Thanks... before July 3rd, I need to have the following done:
install JIC coilovers
corner-weight car
align car
invert front sway bar endlinks
get new tires mounted (still waiting on NNA's authorization)
swap the tranny on...
All of this and I'm working late the next several days and working at Summit Point this weekend... this is going to be a challenge...

guys. i have about 4k miles on the car and i am getting the grind every now and then. i know for sure now that it is NOT driver error. i dont get the grind everytime i go into 3rd, which is why i am having trouble deciding whether or not i should take the car to the dealer or not since the are about 45 mins away..... also what kind of proof do i have to have for them to be convinced that the tranny should be replaced?

The service guy went for a ride with me, gritted his teeth the first three times I shifted into 3rd, and told me he would order a new tranny.

Nissan is only paying the dealership for 3.9 hours to remove and replace. So, it is in their best interest to get it done quickly. How quickly your tranny comes into the dealership varies greatly. Some people are waiting weeks and some are getting them the next day, like I did this last time.

Well, I went to the dealership during my lunch break, allowed the mechanic to take it around the block, and sure enough, he cringed at the grind. New tranny will be ordered, but it's quite possible it's on backorder.
What I found interesting is that Nissan supposedly isn't allowing technicians to browse through the details of the TSBs. It seems that Nissan has been plugging the transparency of information, so no one seems to know anything anymore. Therefore, no one knows if the new tranny is an upgraded design...

optimist,
Have they offered an explanation?
The swap should be fairly quick. The first time the dealership I take my car did the tranny swap for me I got the car back on the second day. But that was their first 350Z tranny swap and they wanted to take their time and make sure they did it right. Since then they have been able to do it in half a day.

I finally got a hold of the service manager this afternoon minutes before he left... said he forgot to call me back. He said that the transmission took a little longer to install than expected and they weren't able to finish it until this morning. He said that when they test drove it the check engine light came on. He mentioned that a sensor had failed and they had to order the part to get it replaced. I hadn't heard of the sensor that he mentioned, but I will post the name of it when I pick it up tomorrow. I'm getting the feeling that this is the first Z tranny that they've done. For all of you St. Louis drivers - be cautious of Suntrup!
