Default Track wheels scratched by dealer (pics)

It has taken me 5 months to get new front tires out of this dealership per the TSB. My fuel door NEVER opens without someone standing there to pry it open and they can't seem to fix that. My driver door won't stay open but that is 'normal'. The parts to fix the window streaks have been back ordered and they told me not to hold my breath. Let's just say that I can't remember the last time I have been so bent out of shape.

On to the wheels. I remembered reading about people whose rims have been damaged by their dealerships so I figured I had better check. I wipe the holes down and sure enough EVERY single opening has scratches. I'm pissed. The service manager goes and gets a socket and puts it in the hole to prove to me it fits. Duh. Then he asks what I want them to do. Duh again. Fix it! They were going to think about it today and let me know.

But it gets better (worse). I take the car home to clean it and evaluate the damage a little more. That is when I saw what they did with weights on the rims. I'll just show pics because they are worth a 1000 words.

What are my options people??? All help appreciated.

AAAHHHHH!!!! You must be really steaming. My dealer scratched my wheels all over the outside when he did the front tire swap TSB for feathering (which hasn't helped). He is currently arguing with the local tire place that actually did the work over who pays. He readily admits that the damage was done while they had the car, and promises to make good. You should insist on new wheels from the bums! That is what I will be getting.

It looks like they were trying to scrape the old adhesive from the weights. Since they scratched them up, I would make them replace the wheels affected. If the management at the dealership is not cooperative, bring it to the attention of NNA.

Hopefully, the dealership will own up to it.

The same has happened to me on my performance wheels. I had the TSB done last thurday and when I cleaned my wheels yesterday I saw all the scratches on the front wheels only! They are scratched between the outer lip and the tire, an area that only a machine would scratch. There are several scratches on the spokes too!! I don't know haw these idiots do this, knowing those wheels aren't cheap. Well I'm gonna fight this and I will get new front wheels.

BTW, I had the chrome stk wheels on my 99 Eclipse GST for 4 years and never a scratch. Even when I got into my accident, it got totalled with perfect wheels.

Your dealer is feeding you a bunch of BS. My dealer ordered the window streak kit about 2 weeks ago and had it in 4 days.

Here's a pic of my front left wheel - see the scratches all along the lip? They swear their machine cannot possibly do this.

Regarding the window streak TSB, I'm not going to bother because it seems like everyone says that now they are getting two streaks with the fix. Am I behind the times on this one?

i feel ur pain!!!

I had the same problem on my Alfa. Some rookie employee in the service department went to rotate my rims, used a rattle gun and chewed the **** out of the holes. I complained bitterly, they refused to replace them, merely repair them convincing me that it was normal. Normal? My wheels were upgraded when i purchased the car and were not scratched then! It wasnt until my dad, who had his 360 Spider on order, argued to cancel his order, that i picked my car up the following day with a fresh set of Zenders. Just as well, coz one i had gutter grazed

My advice, complain like hell. Give them a real hard time. Tell them that if they wont replace the alloys, u will take the problem public. No dealer likes bad publicity!

Good luck!

calm down, those scratches appear to be on the inside...a week of driving and they will be coated with brake dust and you wont see them

hmmm some of us actually take the time to wash inside the rim too, not just the parts other motorists can c. In Jewelz defence of ur lame reply, he has paid good money for those Rays wheels, and is therefore entitled to the upkeep of those alloys how HE wants, not what some inexperienced service man thinks he wants.

I agree!!! A scratch is a scratch, and Joyia is entitled to have HER car and all of its parts returned to HER in the same condition as when SHE dropped the car off. This is especially tru after the run-around they gave her trying to get out of replacing her tires.

If the Svc Manager won't take care of you, call NNA again. Make sure you tell them about all of your problems in addition to the scratched wheels.

I went to the dealer today. They (service advisor and service mgr) didn't argue much since it's obvious the machine had to do the damage on the wheels. The mgr offered to have a local company try and buff out the scratches. I'm giving a chance to fix this but I know there are some scratches like IRISHFAN's wheel where you can see through the silver paint on the wheels. They won't be able to fix this by adding clear coat and buffing the wheels. I'm gonna make that clear to them and I will not accept it any less than the way I gave it to them.

When the dealer did my alignment I got scratches on the outer edge of all 4 of my RAYS.

I showed them the scratches and the said, no problem, drop off the car and they will have them repaired w/ warranty.

A good dealership really makes a big difference in the ownership experience.

I would recomend my dealer to anyone looking for a Nissan.

Don't these other dealerships realize that customer satisfaction after the sale DOES turn into future sales for them.

Yeah, so far my experience has been fine after I informed them that they scratched my wheels. I dropped off my car today and got a rental car at their charge of course. Will see in about 2 days how they did with my wheels.

I told the service advisor that I didn't think they could cover some of the deep scratches and wanted to know what will happen at that point. He said they'd order new wheels. I'm happy with the way they have responded to this issue.

Will give an update in a few days.

Thanks for all who replied-minus the smart @ss reply about letting the wheels just get dirty. LOL

The dealership has a guy that comes in once a week to repair wheels. I called him directly and asked him what the process is. He sands down the areas, uses an etching primer, custom mixes a paint color to match, then adds a clearcoat to finish. I asked about the duribility and he said in the 3 years he has been doing it, he has never seen one chip or flake.

This isn't my first choice as a solution but there is NO way this dealership will get me new rims. Assuming this goes well, it will be the last time this dealership will see me.

I'll be dropping my car off next week. My guess is they will use the same method as you stated Jewelz350. My father had a wheel done on his car 2 or 3 years ago, and it doesn't look any worse then the other 3, so it will probably be fine.

Good luck guys

They told me that the guy that will work on my wheels did some work to the general managers car. It's a Mercedes wheel that had a crack in it. When they were done, you could not see it according to them.

Jewel, consider yourself lucky. Most places don't have the proper equipment to remove the tires from our wheels with the tire pressure sentences. The place in NY I had swap my front tires chewed almost all the finish off the front wheels, and as much as I've tried to plea with them, they refuse to acknowledge the fact that they scratched them. The scratches on your rim are hardly discernable, especially considering they're on the inside.
