Default Tire feathering

Does model year 2004 convert/coupe effected by the tire feathering problem?
Did it effect specific VIN range?
Did they found a fix for it?
How bad is it to live with it?

I am looking to buy a 2004 used vert. and I don't want to buy something I will regret later.

Thanks

If there is anything about feathering that cannot be found here

https://my350z.com/forum/maintenance-and-repair/15758-tire-feathering-fyi.html

then it is not worth finding.

That thread is from 2003. A lot could have happen in 5 years.

Thanks for the reply though.

Some of the 04s had the problem.
Not specific to VIN #s.
Yes, the fix is rather simple - get and keep the car properly aligned. Improper Toe setting was the fundamental cause.
No need to live with it.

Default Front Wheel Alignment Sevice Bulletin

I have a 2004 coupe. My first set of tires had the feathering issue. The dealer replaced the tires after about 20K miles and realigned the front end. The second set of tires lasted about 30K without feathering. My third set of tires (Avons from tirerack.com) have about 30K miles and the feathering problem is back.

When I had the car in for realignement recently, I found out that there is no camber adjustment. The tire shop that has replaced all the tires and did all the alignments said that the settings were to factory specs. I subsequently found the Nissan Service Bulletin for this issue (too large a file to attach, but if you Google "WT04-003", you will find it), which explicity states that the toe in should be 2 mm +/- 0...which, surprise, surprise is not where the tire shop set the toe in...so I'll be back.

BOTTOM LINE: Make sure the toe-in is set right and check it fairly often. Some tire shops offer free lifetime alignments (for an extra fee)...it's worth it for this car. Aside from this tire annoyance, I have had no problems with this car...it runs great and is a fun ride.
