I just got mine off yesterday to install my ARC ****. I felt the same way its a PITA to get off. I couldn't do it myself it took 2 people because there is locktite on there.

What you need to do is lift up the shift boot and above the white cotton there is a rubber thing, pull down the rubber to get to the metal. Once you get to the metal then you can take a vice grip and hold it down so that when you twist your **** it doesn't damage anything. Then I had to have a friend twist the **** because I couldn't vice grip and twist hard enough. With 2 people it was easy, by myself I couldn't do it for my life..

I encountered this PITA problem when changing mine out as well....
It wouldn't budge after turning it to the left so many times so i turned it back to the right (couple twist) then twist it back to the left then right and boom it's off.

That's what I did. I agree that it's a two person job though. I needed and extra set of hands to grip one set of pliers while I twisted it off. That locktite crap is insane.

I went through this a few weeks ago. I was skeptical about doing this after seeing others sacrifice and rip apart their stock s-***** to upgrade. Mine was pretty simple, but before I started I made sure I had the right tools.....a good wide mouth vice grip to lock the shifter so it doesn't turn or move, then get a strap wrench and wrap it around the shift **** snug fit and turn. It may seem a bit tight but don't force it. Just slowly turn the strap wrench counter clockwise. Just a couple twists and the s-**** will loosen pretty easily.
