Default Tire Feathering????

Ok so im going to be gatting a z soon. Prob toward the end of this year or at start of next. I dont have lots of money to spend but i will be making payments. Ive been looking at 2003 350z's becasue they are they cheapest and keep hearing about the tire feathering. Can someone please explain to me what tire feathering is and also what is ment by window streaking.

Feathering on the Z was caused by improper alignment of the front wheels (toe-in setting). Keep your car aligned and it won't be a problem.

Grease streaks on the windows were caused by a felt strip rubbing against the window when it was down inside the door. It's a pretty minor inconvience, shouldn't be a deal breaker when buying a car.

Actually, it's a layer formation on the tire surface, caused by improper alignment. Sometimes tire quality has to do with it, but it's mostly a camber
toe-in/toe-out issue. Good luck!

Not exactly, the only thing "forming" on the tire surface is an uneven wear of the individual tread blocks. The leading edge and trailing edge don't wear the same leaving a saw-tooth pattern across the inner tread blocks. You can feel it buy running your fingers across it both directions - it will be noticable in one direction. When that saw-tooth pattern rolls across the ground, it makes the growling noise that everybody reported. On the Z, it was a result of little to no toe-in.

Few 2005 models have reported the problem but not many. 2006-2008 the problem has been "fixed".

Getting an alignment doesn't do any good if the alignment machine isn't calibrated. That was the problem with the first "fix". I had mine aligned then 8 months later, when the second TSB came out, it was checked and found to be way out of alignment.

Before the second check, the dealer had their machine calibrated. In fact, part of the second TSB was a requirement that the dealer submit documentation showing that their machines had been calibrated within the prior XX months in order to get reimbursed by NNA for the TSB/tire swap.
