Default Rear Hatch Struts

Hey guys
I just got my Z two days ago (pics to follow) and I’ve been having problems with the gas struts that hold up the rear hatch. They quit working last night and will no longer hold the trunk for more than two seconds.

I spoke to the dealership and my warranty had expired less than 2 weeks ago, and they want $444 to replace the things.

Has anyone had this problem, and fixed it for less than $444?

Thanks,
Nick

I bought a set from Pure-enginnering.com - $99 group buy .. (that are so strong you "can almost do chin ups with them". Seriously, I have the Nismo V1 spoiler and I have to 'amost' use two hands to close the hatch. Notice that they are $129 .. beats the heck out of .. what .. $400+??

My hatch doesn't 'pop' anymore, and I have to hold the button down WHILE lifting in order to get it open. It will stay open, but not if the weather is cold. If it is chilly out, it will come flying down, usually right on my head. Any suggestions?
