Post Tire Feathering : Status?

Hi Guys. Can we have a status review on this? The other thread is 36 pages long by now and it is a lot to go through to capture the important tidbits.

Maybe a review with detailed instructions on the facts available so far would help.

Just an idea.

(I am calling Nissan today about mine (8500 miles) and have an appointment on friday at the dealer). Vin 002452

Default Tire Wear Update - Deb's Other Half

There has been a lot of bitching and whining (some valid and some not) on the other thread, but it would be nice to see some facts and figures. Here are facts and figures on my wife's car:

VIN JN1AZ34DX3T111637 delivered March 2003
Checked/Aligned upon delivery on my request (older Hunter alignment unit) as:

Measure/left/right: (camber and caster in degrees, toe in inches)
camber -1.0/0.5; caster 8.5/8.2; toe .05/.05 I was upset by the camber but since it was not adjustable, I decided to see what wear would be before going crazy.

After 3 months and 5200 miles, I took the car back for another alignment check. At this point, I noticed slight heel/toe scrubbing on the outside tread blocks but no feathering across the tire. No noise to speak of.

Dealer had installed new Hunter RX 9L-9000 alignment unit since my last visit. Read the alignment and I was blown away.
Measure/left/right: camber -.7/-.7; caster 8.7/8.4; toe .18/.18

No rough roads and no potholes were hit. The old machine was evidently just giving wrong readings. The alignment technician said he thought some readings looked off on the old Hunter. He believes the new one is right on (what else could he say?). After realignment, new readings are:
Measure/left/right: camber -.7/-.7; caster 8.7/8.4; toe .09/.09

While the tech said the spec settings for toe were .00 to .08, he felt that somewhere just outside the .08 was a better setting from the experience he has had on the car. From a couple of posts on the other thread, Hunter seems to agree. I'll be monitoring tire wear very carefully now. If I had little wear with a total toe of .37 I am wondering what I will get with the new setting being less toed-in than before.

I'll put another update on this thread when I get it. I hope other posts will be facts and figures for comparison.
DOH.
