question on a ses light
So this may be noob but i have been searching the fourm for about hour now and im just getting more confused.
My question first is the SES light (service engine soon) the CEL(check engine light) on the 350z or is there both, the reason why i ask cuz like on most cars they have a serivce light that comes on like every 5000 miles and then a check engine witch you know what that means! and this is my first nissan and my first 350 and my ses light came on today i only have 500 mils on the car 2008 model!
What i did today was install a pioneer D3 i had the battary unhooked for a long part of the day after hooking it back on and taking a nice drive i had noticed the light when i got home! does dissconnecting battary cause this and can i reset it like a normal serivce light or is this like a check engine were i got to go get it looked at and get a code and reset?
thanks for any quick help!

I think your thread is getting a lack of responses due to this being asked a million times. I wont lecture you about searching, but I highly recommend it. You'll find a lot more intelligent and 350Z savvy people answering this question than I.
Still, I like to be helpful....
The CEL and SES are one in the same for the 350Z, at least that's what I seem to recall.
So, you need to find out what code your car tripped. You can either go to Autozone and have them read it for you or do it yourself. (I'd go to Autozone if you have one close...the DIY takes some practice)
However, here's link to reading your codes and resetting the ECU-
http://www.technosquareinc.com/350reset.htm
From the link above.... 1-3 will allow you to read the code (i.e., you'll have to count the SES flashes-search on how to do this, it's easy). Moving on to step 4 will begin the ECU reset procedure, if memory serves.
1. Confirm that accelerator pedal is fully released, turn ignition switch “ON” and wait 3 seconds.
2. Repeat the following steps (2a and 2b) procedures quickly five times within 5 seconds.
2a. Fully depress the accelerator pedal (HARD).
2b. Fully release the accelerator pedal.
3. Wait 7 seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for approx. 10 seconds until the CEL starts blinking.
4. Fully release the accelerator pedal (while the CEL is still blinking)
5. Wait about 10 second.
6. Fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for more than 10 seconds.
7. Fully release the accelerator pedal (The CEL light will continue to blink).
8. Turn ignition switch to “OFF” position and now you can start the car. The CEL light should be gone.
What the CODES mean-

Good luck!
