Default Fuel Door Closing / opening

Guys,
While trying to fuel up the other day I had some difficulty closing my fuel door. It wasnt the plastic wire that holds the gas cap on. For some reason it just wouldnt close. Well after trailering the car to Texas, i decided to drive it to the gas station and after pulling up to the pump, i could not get the door open. You could hear the motor trying to disengage the door mechanism but it would not open. Finally someone saw me walking back and forth to the driver's door and then to the fuel door and came over to help. While pushing the button several times he carefully pulled on the door and it finally opened..then it took several times to close..has any one had that problem. I searched and only found something from 2003 and also looked to see if there was a TSB on it. Found nothing... any help would be appreciated..

Sometimes I find that the latch that is supposed to retract and extend allowing the fuel door to disengage and secure gets stuck occasionally. I am not sure why it did this, but I shot just a bit of silicone lubricant in there and it seemed to do the trick.

Another suggestion might be to push the door open button on the dash once, lightly. You may be holding the button in too long and the engage/disengage latch is retracting and then extending again, not allowing your fuel door to pop open.

Right, it's a combination of humidity & grime that makes it difficult to operate.

Yup, that little bugger gets stuck a lot if you live in a dusty area coupled with humidity. I always push it just once while the car still has power, the more I push the more it seems to fail. If you keep having issues take it to the dealership, mine lubricated it and offered to replace it at a later date if I choose to do so.

if you guys are having this issue still you may want to take it up to the dealer..it is the actuator on the door that needs replacing..

Even though our monZters are excellent regarding engine, AT--specifically--,
cooling system, electrical system, fuel injection system, etc., they DO suf-
fer from three pet peeves: The fuel door latch thingy; the driver's side power
window issue; and, finally, the hatchback door struts not holding the door
open, especially in cold weather. Otherwise, I l-o-v-e my "Zee", since none of
those issues will leave me stranded on the road!!!
