Default Engine Temp issue

Hello everyone,

About two months ago I bought a 2003 350z and recently installed a JWT popcharger. I really enjoy the sound afterwards, and haven't run into any issues, until today.

This afternoon, I was waiting in line to get some fastfood and noticed my engine temp gauge was VERY near the H mark. I turned the car off and waited a bit, it was still high when I started it up a few minutes later, but it went down pretty quickly once I got moving.

Now, I know that engines get hot when you get into stop and go traffic, the 107 degree temp is was that day (I live in Texas...), and the popcharger has issues with heatsoak. However, I was curious if anyone here would know if buying a 5/16 plenum spacer would help this engine temp issue. (I know it helps the engine breathe a little easier)

I plan on getting this mod in the first place, but I was looking for another reason to get one.

If this won't do anything is there anything else I can do? Besides uninstall my popcharger or drive anytime from 10am-10pm

Thanks in advance

The intake caused the engine to overheat? Doubt it. If you want to look for a culprit the first place I would check is the thermostat.

What is important is intake air temoerature as each 11F decreases density and thus power by 1.00%

Poop chargers can ingest hot under hood air which can cause ecu to go into summer overheat protection mode, as can coolant above 199F.

i seriously doubt your pop charger had anything to do with your car overheating. 107 degrees outside or not, that air its breathing in is like a cold breeze compared to the temperature of the engine.

I would check your radiator for a leak, fan not spinning or if you had the fluid replaced recently you may have air in the system. If you've never changed the coolant i would check the consistency of the fluid and possibly consider doing a fluid overhaul. (drain/refill)

Thanks for the help, I'll check those things you mentioned and see if there are any problems.

I should mention though that the only reason I thought my intake may have had something to do with it was because this never happened when I had the stock airbox on. So it kind of took me by surprise. Once I got moving though everything cooled down within seconds.

I also haven't been able to reproduce what happened last weekend in terms of engine temp, so who knows. Fluke?

Thanks again to those who replied.
