seems that my cold air intake has rubbed a hole through the high side AC pressure line. I have access to all of the freon stuff here at work. So i'm guessing i will evacuate the freon.

Is it hard removing and installing the new line? Any special tools? Any help would be great. Thanks.

lol. I actually aluminum welded it and everything was fine until it was leaking again. 300 psi of air will do that though.

 

my injen has eaten about half way through the metal line on mine also, subscribed.

 

i just picked up the hard ac line with the orings or whatever from Nissan. It cost about 190 but with my dealer discount, came to about 150 bucks. Which sucks btw..lol.

I'll do the install tomorrow and hopefully everything will go fine. I believe i will need a special AC line removal tool. Thank God i have free access to the freon machine and free freon. This ordeal would of cost me around 4-500 if i gave it to the dealers.

 

I just had a shop fix mine but it did not look to hard to do.

my hole was a size smaller than a pin hole. It's VERY small. I had to evac my whole system and then put freon back in it just to see where the leak is. Even with a tiny hole, the freon/dye comes out fast because of all the pressure. So some of you may have a small leak where the AC doesn't work as good but still blows out somewhat cool air. I quick fix of this is to put high temp rubber hose around the AC hard line between the intake pipe and the hardline. I learned the hardway through. This is on my blue roadster btw, my black Z is fine....thank God.

 

actually they billed me 50 bucks for the hardline. I'm pretty damn happy. I guess it was the wrong part from the pic, i went back up there and got it straightened out.

 

yuuuuuuup my injen just did the same and now i have no AC in middle of summer.

these are caused by SRI as well. The one on my roadster is from the injen SRI. The one on my black Z , i use the HKS intake which is an SRI and had early signs of it but i caught it before it happened.

 

Now that I think about it... I gave my friend the Injen intake and he used it for a SRI. It rubbed against the line so he made a rubber piece to secure the intake pipe and raise it a little higher to keep it away from the line.

 

Have you guys used some heat wrap like the DEI stuff on the A/C lines?

You can weld if you want. You have to buy a braze or a aluminum type rod and weld that on. The thing is, you need to evacuate your whole system properly with a machine because when you are torching the aluminum line, if the left over freon is in there, it will be toxic. So it's a bit dangerous.

Better way is just to replace the line. I wish nissan made the line shorter or in different parts because that high pressure line is one long *** line. It goes from the front AC condensor to the back of the firewall. You will have to take off the windshield cowl, etc.

 

Sorry but its a common problem for long intakes: one where the filter is behind the front bumper.

I wish it was a more popular subject so that members would take protective steps like putting a piece of rubber tubing around the air conditioning line.

 

Well I made sure the freon was out and welded it. Now do I just take it anywhere that will recharge the system or is there another step I have to take? I need my A/C. August r hot.

 

yeah, take the car in and they will do a leak test on the system just to make sure. There is a lot of pressure in the line so the weld can break or leak again very quickly.
