Thumbs up New Info on Feathering!!!!

New information I heard through the Grapevine on tire feathering!

My source indicated that Nissan has resolved the issue on all 2003 Z's built in January or later. Not sure of the exact fix but had something to do with different springs and adjustments in the suspension as well as how the are shipped.

99% of the discussion/complaints on tire feathering seem to come from people who have purchased their Z's in 2002 or early 2003. This would seem to add some substance to the above information.

I was also told that Nissan is not admitting to any of this as they would need to fix alot of 2002 Z's out there.

I do not know how much of this is true but the question for those who have bought there Z's with build dates in 2003 who have driven their vehicles 5,000 miles or more is:

Do you have tire feathering?
If so, how many miles were on your car when the condition occurred?
What was your build date?

It would be nice to validate if the above statement has validity!

To keep this thread manageable, please avoid replying if your build date was in 2002.

Thanks:

Built December 2002
8500 miles

Went on a 1500 mile trip to Dallas, came back home and noticed the tires are feathering now. Before the trip they were not and I had 7000 miles on the car. Oh and speeds on the way there exceeded 130 mph so I am sure that did not help in the speeding up of the feathering issuse.

Not to bust your bubble, but this info has been known already.. we know that newer spec Z does not have feathering problem. I think after the Mid-Dec 2002 built date. There is a huge thread on this subject..

I think there was thread started to have people with newer built date to list their miles and production date, most if not all Z after Mid. dec has no problem. I can't remember the title, but there was a lot of threads started on this already..

If you can point out a thread dealing with a poll on this topic for newer Z's great. I couldn't find one.

In the meantime for all those with build dates of 2003 or newer please weigh in with your experience on feathering. I think this is information that would be very informative to us newer Z owners.

Thanks

if you read this thread:

Has anyone checked to see if there are any noticable suspension differences between the fixed and non-fixed?

I still find it hard to beleive that Nissan will not fix this problem on early models.

Apexi 350Z

Thanks for the link regarding the previous discussion on feathering. I found it very interesting and gives me hope that I will not develop this problem.

It sounds like at least a few people with earlier models did not have feathering issues. I'm still curious on the newer build dates if the % of cars that have feathering is less due to the mystery fix that Nissan may have done in November/December. May be pretty hard to find an answer.

Thumbs up Going in tmorrow morning

Have an appointment at 7 am tomorrow morning with the service mgr. I told him we're going for a car ride when I get there - no problem he said. This will be the 3rd alignment - So I called Nissan1 and they requested a phone call from the service mgr once the dealership starts work.

So, I'll know more tomorrow. Hopefully new tires and a 3 rd alignment.

If this does work, then the question is why can the current models use the 40s and not have the problem.
