That there is some kind of hope out there because my tranny, after being replaced 25K and over a year ago, is still going strong.
And I am flogging it daily.
Has there been any official word as to WHY this is happening in the first place? I remember somewhere in this thread I actually posted the various things I had heard from various "official" sources, but it's been a while.
lemme know.

so then just gave me my Z back and here's what I got:
30210-CD020 COVER ASSY
30502-69F10 BEARING REH01AA R&I MT ASSY
30100-CD019 DISC ASSY
32010-CD008 TRANS
the new trans doesn't feel all that different from the last. the feel is still somewhat clunky, not much smoother than the previous.

If it doesn't feel any better than it did before, then it's not gonna be any better than it was before.
So far I do believe the common experience here is when they replace it, and do it right, there is a significant difference in the way it feels....
There are plenty of owners out there that have been through replacing the trans and whatever else their doing, 2, 3, and more times....
Start complaining now, so that when something comes up in 5,10,15K it's not "oh sure, now you have a problem" and written off...
good luck!

Keep a good eye on it. My 04 had the tranny and pressure plate swapped out. AS well as the rear outer axel joints. Drive it hard and make sure your shifting is good and see if it grinds or locks you out of gears you have a problem. Mine would grind the hell out of 2nd when shifting from high rpms no matter how perfect I shifted it. It would also sometimes lock me out of 6th gear or make me try a couple times to get into it.
I also had my front tires replaced for free as well as an alignment adjustment due to an alignment problem.
I also put sytnthetic fluid in mine.

Just had 2006 transmission installed on my 2005 Z.
So far - so good.
Yes, there is a 009 part # transmission.

Ive got an 04 with no grind but oing into second and third it feels like metal on metal contact. Im planning on mentioning something next time I get my oil changed. Is this the usual precursor to trans problems? I take it easy on the trans so hopefully it will come out before the warrenty is up. Only have 10,000 miles on it so im a little worried. thanks, for any help.

zman2 - how many miles did your 2005 Z have on it when you got the tranny replaced and did you have any problems w/ the dealership?
I took my 2005 Z in today b/c when shifting from 1-2 it was making a thud (semi-grind) sound. Basically it sounds like it's coming from directly under the shifter and 1-2 is not as "smooth" as all the other shifts. There has also been times when downshifting to 2 and it was locked out.
Anyway the dealership (not the one I bought it from) called and said they couldn't find anything wrong w/ it.
Do you think I am alittle paranoid about the tranny? I know it's pretty notchy but 1-2 is a lot "notchier" than the rest and even sounds diff? When I dropped it off the service manager even said "it's probably the transmission". Over the phone he said that it's still under warranty (11750 k) and this tranny will be covered for another 50 k or so.
Did many ppl have to make multiple trips to get the tranny replaced?
Update: just got the car back. He said that if the tranny is going to go it will be around 20k so he told me to keep an eye on it.
Also did you know it cost $140 to get a key made!!

It was grinding going into fifth and hard to get into third when rpm's were high.
No problem getting it replaced except they needed permission from Nissan because of my APS TT.
Transmissions are covered for 60,000 miles.
Good luck.

I see that mcduck and zman2 had theirs replaced with a S/C/TT. Has anyone else been able to get their dealership to do it when they have FI on their cars?
My 04G sedan just went in yesterday for 2nd and 5th grinding and I have the Stillen S/C so I am afraid they are going to fight me on it even though the synchros have nothing to do with how much it...

Hi, I just brought my '06 DB base into shop again this week. I had a shifting problem since 250 miles. They told me to get past the 1200 mile break-in period. I have 2000 miles and when we shift from 3rd to 4th it seems sticky, hard to engage. Does not happen all the time. They looked at the tranny and they are requesting a new tranny from Nissan. I'll wait to see if they replace with a "new" or try to repair. Anyone else with a similar problem. Should I expect a "New" tranny? I think I should!!! Albany Nissan, Albany NY. SullyZ
