Default TPMS problem (not sensors)

I have an 03 touring and the tpms light has been on for sometime. I called up my local dealer (wish I had a damn consult) and the service advisor was nice enough to go grab the consult and try to reprogram the sensors. The fronts would not program. Now, the fronts are new sensors b/c the old ones were dead. I thought that this may be the problem, however, we then told the cars computer that the rears were the fronts and the fronts still didnt register . He said it could be the bcm, but wouldn't it be the tpms computer? Has anyone had experience with this type of problem?
thanks

The BCM is the TPMS computer. Did you use brand new sensors when you replaced the two?

yup, brand new. If the BCM is the TPMS computer, what is the part that is on courtesy's parts diagram that is the tire press. control unit?

Probably labeled as "Body Control Unit/Module"

It is labeled tire press. control unit and there is another part that is the BCM. The tpms control unit looks to be behind the driver side dash. I believe the BCM is in the passenger footwell above the ECU, Is this correct?
