Im hoping you guys can help. Ran over some type of hole cover at the gas station and i heard a loud clank. Now Im leaking a tiny bit of oil. Its almost on the rear passenger jack position. There is a metal plate and its got a small nick in it. The oil is coming from the side of the top of the plate though. I have to go to work so I cant mess with it now. What do you guys think it is or what is that metal plate connected to or covering. Plate is closer to the back of the passenger door under the car.

Added: Im thinking its the gas tank.

That's roughly where the gas tank is...

 

Think it has a small leak but from the top. Tank cover has a small gash type dent. Cant see where the leak starts.

 

Sounds like an insurance claim.

A few months after I got the car I was on the 5 behind a CHP and he swerves clear of a giant piece of metal. With no time to respond I just tried to make sure I dont run it over but it clips my gas tank after it shredded the triangle shapped metal bracing. Drove to the dealership with gas gushing out (there goes my full tank of gas) looking back ocationaly to make sure theres no flames.
Insurance replaced everthing (new gastank and all)
