Does this look like tire feathering
Hey guys, I need a second opinion. Reading the repairing forum gets you kind of paranoid. I've got about 10000 miles on my car right now. I haven't had any real problems with it except for that weird rattle in neutral with the clutch out. Anyways, I need a second opinion, does this look like the start of that tire feathering everyone's talking about? If it is I've got couple questions.
1. Do I have to take it to the dealer that I bought it at to get fixed? If not, does anyone know of a good dealer, i.e. one who won't give me the run around, in the temecula or san diego area?
2. Mine doesn't look as bad as some of the pictures I've seen. Does it have to be worn to a certain point or anything for them to fix it?

You can't REALLY tell from most pictures. Do your tires start roaring when you slow down from about 35 mph? Feel the inside of the tread, right where you took pics--is the wear bumpy and uneven? From the pics, it *looks* like you may be showing signs, but then again, it could be just the picture.
If I were you, I'd take it in--any Nissan dealership should take care of it, and if they don't, just call NNA and start building your case with them. If the tires aren't too bad, they'll just swap them on your front wheels and send you on your way. If they're bad, they *might* give you new tires, but you might have to fight for them.
I can't help you out on local dealers, unfortunately, but I'm sure someone else could chime in and send you somewhere that will take care of you.
Good luck!
P.S. I'm taking mine in this week for the very same thing, and I'm at 7800 miles.

I agree- you have it. Drive along around 20 mph and you should have quite a roar from the front end.
P.S.- Make sure you get it corrected before you hit 12K miles!!!

Yes you have it! Call NNA (800-Nissan1) and file your case. I noticed and reported it to dealer at 11,000 miles. Showed him pictures to include providing him with copy of TSB. Dealer finally performed TSB at 17,000 miles. Combination of things kept it from being performed sooner (Master Tech. not available, no time to perform and finally Tech. on vacation). I don't fault the dealer. Tires are order and will be replaced under warranty.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I tried really listening for the roar at that speed but I still don't really hear anything. But I'll give NNA a ring nonetheless, it couldn't hurt I guess.
What happens at 12K miles Z'd??

The alignment is only covered within the first year or 12k miles. That's why you need to get it in fast. It's total BS, but that seems to be Nissan's policy on the matter.

Hey guys, I called NNA and made an appt for tomorrow with the dealer. I tried to read the official feathering post until I found out it was 49 pgs long!! We really should just have one main sticky saying how to tell if you've got feathering, what to do, what to expect as in service, and any other info needed to remedy the problem. I mean its helpful and all seeing everyone's story but 49 pgs worth, sheesh. Anyways, I was just hoping you guys could help me clear a couple of things up before I go to the dealer.
1. When I talked to NNA they said that there wasn't any TSB's or recalls out on the Z, was he correct in saying this?
2. What should I expect as for service? Do they just swap the tires and align and thats it? How bad do my tires need to be to be replaced?
Any other info you guys think I should know before I go to the dealer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Kay, heres the update:
I took the car to Quality Nissan of Temecula. I told them the inside of my front tires are wearing out. They said they've had a few Z's coming in with alignment problems. So the guy sends it to get aligned, and I think all is good. I give him a call because I forgot to tell him about the road noise. I also mention the TSB and how it says to realign and switch the front tires. He tells me that if I wanted that done that I would have to pay it out of my own wallet. I thought they had to do what the TSB's said at no cost to me? He said that the TSB's are just a suggestion to the tech on how to remedy the problem.
What do you guys think I should do? I really don't notice the road noise, but I've heard it can creep up on ya. Should the alignment have fixed the problem?

Yeah, that dealer was trying to royally screw you! These TSBs are 100% on Nissan--call NNA right away and report those jackasses!
The alignment is *supposed* to fix the problem, but I know a few people have had it come back, so just keep an eye on your tread.
