Default Odd 5AT problem... anyone else?

The other day I was in the middle of nowhere, stopped at a light. Turned off my TCS, and did a moderatly hard launch. (Little torque braking, only up to about 2500) So I burned all the way through first, and shifted myself into second via manu-matic. Then all of a sudden, couldn't shift to third. Very odd i thought. So i figure, fine.. just shift to full auto. IT wouldn't leave second gear either. so I am now freaked out... did I do some damage? I come to a stop at a stop sign ahead, car downshifts to 1st. Pull away and everything is fine now. This was on Tuesday. All has continued to be fine. Anyone else have this issue? Are hard launches going to cause damage to my car? let me know opinions. Thanks.

no, hard launches wont hurt your tranny. even if you brake torque at 2.5k,3k, or 6k it wont hurt the car since your already in gear. whats hurts the tranny is doing a 4k+ launch with a mt. the problem you had is probably just a freak occurence, and wont happen again. ive had my 5at for almost a year now and havent had any problems, and i do hard launches all the time.

No problems on hard launches so far. I've just broken in my Roadster and have done a few hard launches, however, I've keep it in Auto mode. TCS off, torque brake to about 2500, floor it, and it lights up for a few rotations, grabs and just takes off. Just keep her floored and she shifts perfect right at redline each time. Some of the other 5AT owners who have taken them to the strip, said they did better leaving it in Auto, rather than trying Manual mode and trying to get the shift point just right. Seems if you keep it floored the computer in auto mode does it perfect each time. I'm sure your launch was just a freak thing.

Just yesterday, I was at a stop light in the manu-matic mode. Took off...hit about 6500 rpms (by accident actually). Came to next stop light...took off...noticed that my tach needle wasn't moving.

I was like WTF????? By next light everything is fine.

Has anyone else experienced this problem??????

Sorry to go off track a bit...

No problems like this...

I run Manu-matic with my Slicks on (atleast now they are slicks)
A year old this week with 21,000 miles

Never any problems like this....

Is it me or the Manu-matic will let you shift at 7,500 rpms on a hard launch

I swear i hit 8000 once.... (Dead serious)

Default Manu-matic

I have over 38,000 miles and I run my car at the strip often and I have never had a single anomoly, even when experimenting w/shift modes. Don't worry, be happy! (Heard that somewhere.)
Regards, Jim

Only problems I had with 5AT is that, when it is in manu-mode, sometime I come to hard stop and it down shifts to first gear, it makes clunking noise from the tranny. Does anyone have this problem?

yeah, i have that happen about every 1 in 25 times. also, when doing hard launches you might want to reconsider brake torqueing (sp?) due to the 30% power cut (notice you cant rev over 3k).

9,000 miles to date and no problems. It's so much more fun to drive with TCS off.

could have been in safe mode? It does that to protect the tranny/engine from excessive wheel spin and stuff like that. My I30 does that cause I dont have TCS.
