Default Anyone else exp weird clutch disengage rumble?

Hi Guys, I have an 08 Nismo 350. When I shift from first -> second, I would step down on the clutch and I felt as if the engine were forcefully disattached from my clutch and created this ramble feeling and a nasty disengage sound. What am I doing wrong here? Did I step down on the clutch too fast? too early? Sometimes I get a clean disengage and felt great, but a lot of the times its like I described above. Any inputs? Thanks for any advice.

Edit: Sorry if my English is bad, English is not my native language >< I try my best to make it as understandable as I can. XD

When you disengage the clutch the engine is “detached” from the clutch. Or better the flywheel is detached from the clutch. Operating the clutch will cause drive train shutter. How much depends on factors such as toque and technique.

So get out there and bang some gears!

Extremely common "issue"...some clutch setups are worse that others but the general consensus is that all 350z's have this clutch chatter to some degree.

lol.. he is not talking about the clutch chatter..

OP i know what you talking about.. like sometimes when you step of the clutch really quickly(not smoothly).. the clutch disengages making a "dum dum" noise... personally i have no clue what makes that noise

Hey Kyx4n I think you are the closest to what I meant. But I am a "noob" as far as car tech stuff so I think the above 2 people may also be correct. I just wanted to know if this is bad for the car or not as it sounded really "uncomfortable"....

Lastly, is it normal to smell "slight" burn after a hard push around the 5-6k rpms start? The shift transition were all smooth so it shouldnt be the smell of a burning clutch, I have broke in the car for the first 3K miles very very gently so I don't know what is causing this but I always get this smell everytime when I push the car harder than what I do daily. Does this smell means damage? Any inputs?

Thanks for all your helps guys, I know I may asking noob questions but I'll remember them and not to ask twice

Sounds like your burning the clutch up a lil buddy. get off your clutch.

Dont forget that the Z is a mechanical shift, so it is a lot harder clutch and its a lil louder than a master/slave shift on most non sporty cars. Could be your noise.

Hi BigJax,

I am very interested also concerned on how I may be burning my clutch. I usually step down the clutch paddle after I release gas to shift. Is this the wrong way to do it?

The sound usually comes out during this phase of the shifting and only occur at low rpm and speed. It never happens when I am over 25 m/h or at 3+ gears.

Please enlighten me.

Thanks again for your time and input.
Best,
James

Okay buddy, judging by what you said here

after a hard push around the 5-6k rpms start?
This would imply you are burning clutch, it doesnt matter if you have a smooth shift, if you rev it up that high and the clutch is in still, whether your letting it out slow or not, its going to burn, you need to be off the clutch that high into the rpms.

If your trying to start fast you still need to be off the clutch by 2500 rpms or so, if you want to launch you need to get your rpms up then drop the clutch at something higher. Either way your clutch shouldnt be in very long with high rpms.

The noise your referring to

The sound usually comes out during this phase of the shifting and only occur at low rpm and speed.
It's the mechanical clutch dissengaging, or engaging. It is just a mechanical arm being released or put on. This is normal and nothing to worry about. not that I suggest dropping your clutch for every shift but your going to hear some noise because of the type of clutch.

Sorry it took me so long to reply, im a busy guy. Hope you get things going though, and have fun with your Z James.

Jax

Thanks Jax for your detailed respond, I feel much more comfortable now with your help and "Down set go"s experience share.

I do have one more questions for Jax. Is there anyway to avoid burring the clutch? or its really just physics that no matter how much you practice you "will" burn the clutch at high RPM driving? If this is true, then thanks Jax for all your help so far. If there are ways we can avoid burning the clutch at these driving conditions or at least burn at the minimum, then please by all means enlighten me Jax.

I know your a busy guy Jax and I really want to thank you for all of your time.

James
