Default Fuel Injector cleaner???

My car has 7,000 miles now and have always heard to use some fuel inj. cleaner with every oil change.. Is this true? If so what brand do you get? When should you use it?

I dont know to much on this subject.. Any help would be great..

Default Injector cleaner

For years now Nissan has stated in the owners manual not to use injector cleaner (this inlcudes the 350Z). I have heard it has something to do with the injector materials used and the cleaner can harm them.

Now if someone could explain why Nissan says no to injector cleaner this would be helpful.

Simple - becuase there is no need for it, particularly on a new car.

Its one of the snake oils of the aftermarket IMHO.

Default Snake Oil

I agree that new cars don't need it, but as the car ages it is a good idea.

I know that not all injector cleaners are snake oil. One of the best ones out there is Red Line fuel system cleaner. I have used it a couple times on cars that had hestiation and poor economy problems and it completely fixed them.

As someone who designs fuel injectors I can tell you that:

a) Most cars never need their injectors cleaned.
b) Neither the injector manufactures nor the car manufactures test for compatability with the cleaners. That is why they don't recommend them. No car company recommends any fuel system cleaner.
c) My experience with the aftermarket leads me to believe they don't test their stuff either. Some companies like Red Line may be an exception, I can't say for sure.
d) If you do have a deposit problem in your injectors it is highly unlikely that any solvent that doesn't destroy your fuel system will be able to clean it.
e) Never putting anything with any type of alcohol in it in your fuel system.
f) Your best defense is to buy name brand gasoline.

I used BG 44K in my 300ZX every 5000-7000 miles. Great stuff, It's the only fuel additive that truley works IMHO, you can feel the difference after using it. Was recomended by a Nissan tech. It's probably overkill on a new car however.-
