Default AEM Cold Air causing trouble (kinda limp mode)

Hi,
An AME cold air was installed like 2 weeks ago, no problem for a week, then after a rainy, i was driving normally when i lost all my power, wasn't able to get over 2,000 rpm, but the car didnt stop and no check engine... Same thing during the evening. 2 days laters, no rain, the car was running kinda smooth.

It was raining for like 4-5 days in a row and i took it tonight, no rain, yeah ! But that damn piece of **** goes wierd again, and still no check engine, could not go over 2k rpm right after i was hard on the accelerator.

While i was surfing the forums, i found someone that got a similar problem because is MAF sensor wires were touching the struts bar, so i looked at it and found that the MAF wires where pretty tight because on a tie rap, i cutted it and voila, no more problem for now...

But all this still dont make any sence to me, anyone have a better idea or can explain why i didnt have a check engine? Can my ECU gives some code without lighting the check engine?

Richard

p.s.: I know, my english is bad

I don't know about the 350z's MAF sensor but my last car would hiccup and buck badly if the MAF wires were too tight because everytime the car hits WOT the wires would pull too tightly on the MAF sensor causing it to buck. The car would also drive differently based on the actual positioning of the MAF sensor but I don't know if that's an issue with 350z's cause I haven't gotten around to installing an intake yet.

Make sence since the tie rap was attaching the wires to the engine an they were probably attached on the original air box before i installed my AEM...

thanks for the reply !

I really think it has to do with the location of the cold air filter. My personal thoughts are that the filter gets wet causing the engine to choke. Or the extra moister gets sucked through the intake and makes the MAF freak out. Do you have the bypass? I have see on the forums before that one other guy was suffering the same problem. He had a bypass so that blows my theory of me installing a bypass to solve the problem.

I agree with Turbotoy...I too have an AEM Cai with no bypass valve and have the same problem, when it rains filter gets wet causing the problem you described...engine not going beyond 2000 rpm's.

same problem here from AEM cai after rain/wash. Have to baby the throttle until the filter is dry.
