Default Tappet nightmare

Hi - I'm new to the forum after buying an '04 350z Gt-spec in February.

I bought it with 30k on the clock from a Nissan dealer with full service history and also a years AA gold mechanical warranty.

I live in London so I only use it irregularly and only then do we use it for motorway driving (to visit friens/relatives outside the capital).

Anyway... I started hearing a clicking noise in about May and took it into a dealer and the tappets need looking at - the buckets need replacing on the left-hand side. It's going to cost me £2000 to fix and will take "up to 5 weeks to fix"!

I'm waiting to hear back from the warranty company but I fear that they will refuse to pay because they will say the problem is "general wear and tear".

If they say this I have very little comeback.

What I want to ask is - do you think such a young car with so few miles should have this problem? And do you think it would come under "general wear and tear" or should I fight my corner?

I'm obviously feeling really down about the whole thing

thanks so much, Graeme

I've never heard the terms tappet or bucket.

Are you talking about the lifters?

If so that should definetly be under warranty because that is NOT a general wear and tear item.

Do you have service records that the vehicle had it's oil changed regularly? Always get service records with used card purchases. Otherwise, for all you know, the car has never had an oil change.

If the car has a full service history and an external warranty, you should be in good hands. Just keep in communication with the dealer. I have never heard of any other Z having this issue, and I've been around the car for 6 + years

Mine is in the shop right now for lifters/buckets. The stealership told me about $2,500 to fix, so I took it to a local guy who owns an import shop. Its something like 13 hours labor and it's supposed to be about $800 with him.
