Default Broken windshield

Hi guys. I left the car outside my apartment building and seems like somebody throw something out of the balcony and hit my windshield really bad...

I have a basic liability insurance so they are not helping me with this one and I have to replace it myself. I didn't call the dealership yet, but I went to courtesyparts.com - it was around 700 for a new one. I checked safelite.com - they gave me a quote $168.95 with labor included.
Wondering if it is really big difference between the original windshield and the one they sell at safelite?
I know with the original windshield there is some kind of protection or some special coating, so when it rains water doesn't stay on the glass - it's kind of spreads out. Anybody knows if aftermarket glass does the same thing?

Well... I'm not paying ))))) Just checking. Never had to replace the windshield before. But I drove a lot of the other cars besides 350z, and there is a really big difference between the windshield on the Z and some domestic ones.

Don't know what everyone else thinks but that looks an awful lot like a foot print.

well i just went through this on my z a factory window cost $849 list. My cost because i do collision repair was $600 for the factory glass.there is a difference after market glass is some times thinner and it will have some wave or warps in the glass, if this does not bother you then go with the aftermarket glass if you have money then buy the factory one.I like my frosty Nissan logo so my glass matches and the crappy quality of the aftermarket glass would **** me off so i went factory but that is up to you they will both work.you will also need the upper molding retainer and molding when you replace the windshield they are not reusable parts they are if i remember correctly $90 a piece

+1..who did you **** off? If they threw something at it wouldn't the remnants of the object be somewhere around the car? Safelite ftw! I just got pegged with rocks from a semi truck, left 4 cracks in my windshield, and $120 later you can't even notice. Of course this was just a repair not a replacement...

I meant that I'm not paying 700 for it.

If it was a foot, then that would be some prints on the hood also.
Cops found pieces of some kind of glass vase around, but not the whole thing. I think somebody pushed it from the balcony by mistake and then ran downstairs and picked it up so he (or she) can hide the evidence.
That's a 45 floors building and anything thrown from the balkony will hit really hard.
I never tried to break the windshield with my leg but I'm pretty sure it's really hard to do. You need at least hammer or something similar.

That's what the cops said. But I did some researches in internet and I found that you have to have comprehensive insurance in order for insurance to replace your windshield (or any other glass). But if you will find some article where it says that insurance have to pay even if I just have liability, I will be really happy!!

just make sure they have a tech that has done a 350z before, the a pillars have to be removed, and they are easy to break. I got mine for 260 installed w a 12 mo chip fix warranty, OEM quality rubber and seams, and lifetime warranty on clips and fasteners too. its like a new car again.

I would call around to different windsheild places, they may know a bit more. I had a crack on my old Integra windshield called a place they came out the next day and replaced it in my garage no charge.

They're all the same and all need to be certified before installation. Now go buy yourself a windshield
