Instrument Panel Malfunction
My 2008 Touring Roadster is 5,000 miles and 8 months old. My problem began about one month ago.
When I'm sitting in traffic it seems that my tachometer would just freeze and not move, usually at idle. It would continue to be frozen at 700rpm for a minute or two even though i was moving and could obviously hear the engine revving as i sped up and slowed down. This happened once a week or so?
Earlier in the week I was once again sitting in traffic on my way to work and it happened to me again, except this time it was both my tachometer (stuck at idle) and my speedometer (stuck at zero). They both continued to be frozen even though i was moving with traffic. The center dashboard adjustable pod was still displaying correct mph when i was moving however. Generally my speedometer came back first, then the tach jumped up to where it should have been and started working again.
I brought the car to the dealer a few weeks ago for an oil change and told them about the tach problem (speedometer wasnt acting up at that point). As usual, they could not recreate the issue and it was dismissed. Obviously this is something i cant do on demand, and anything short of carrying a video camera with me when i drive would be hard to show as evidence.
Anyone have experience with this problem? All help is greatly appreciated.

Its the sun. Were you in stop and go traffic? Was the sun on the Tach/Speedo? Top was down?
Common issue. Sun hits it, especially on a super hot day, and the needle or mechanism inside expands ever so much, making it hard to move. Throw the AC on coming out of the top vents or put the top up. Problem fixed.
Bump the olde thread.
