Default Heater Smell in car

hey whats up..

Im from Montreal, its starting to get colder out.. so ive been using the heat in the car..

it seems like when the car gets warmed up.. and driving for a while with heat on.. it starts to smell burny..? kind of like wax, when you blow out a candle..?

the car drives fine.. no problems at all.. all other gages are fine too, engine, oil, voltage etc..

if I turn all the way to cold or put AC on.. the smell is not there..

but if the heat is on.. it eventually starts.. and when I park in the garage, turn car off.. doors closed etc.. I can smell it coming from the car.. if I walk out and back in to garage.. I can smell it in the air..?

I have a 6mt, 2005, with about 33,000 miles.

car is never winter driven.. and the only time I start to use heat, is now in the fall. when its colder.. when snow comes car is stored.

but last fall, i never noticed this smell.. only this year..?

my friend suggested it could be because the heating elements are not used all summer long.. or the air filter into the cabin..?

let me know what you think
thanks
Tony

i think its normal. Our car doesn't have a in-cabin air filter and when i turn on the heater, the same smell come out.. Just stick some air freshener in the vent and call it a day.

well its nothing severe.. but the smell is definitely there..
the thing is, I didnt notice this last year..?

I thought maybe it was just me.. but even my girlfriend noticed it, we had been driving etc.. and when parked and got out of car.. she was like it smells like burnt wax..?

and that smell is really evident when I park in my garage.. I can smell it in the air..

I'm gonna assume it's just burnt up leaves and other contaminants cooking in there.

well, i went to see my friend at the nissan dealer in my area..

he could smell it.. and suggested for sure its a plastic bag.

I already looked before and he looked again, and there was no bag visible, but he said it probably burnt off, and it still cooks on the exhaust to give off that smell.

so I guess, I'll leave it at that.. and hope it eventually goes away..

well there you go..

in the daylight when looking under the car ( without lifting it), I couldnt see anything or plastic bag.

but I used the intense flash on my cell phone today to look again.. low and behold right there on the left side of the y-pipe, there was black **** all over, burnt onto the metal..

whether from a bag or something else.. something definitely cooked on there, and thats why theres the plastic smell all the time, as the car reaches normal temperature..

sucks, but at least I know what it is now.
