Angry ***Paint issues passing through Quality Control at NISSAN factory***

My fellow Z owners,

Here are two pics of my cousin's new Z roadster with a paint blotch from the factory. My cousin was out of town so his brother and I picked up the new ride for him at the dealership. I admit we should have done a better walk around, but it was also at night and that Z wasn't mine so I didn't really care.
My cousin returned from his business trip and thought we had screwed up his Z and tryed to cover it up. I explained to him we did no such thing. I thought it might have been from the delivery off the ship at the port. My cousin took the Z back to the dealership and they called a NISSAN rep out to investigate. The rep stated it was like that from the factory and quality control didn't catch it. Didn't catch it? Were they on lunch break and left the assembly line rolling? NISSAN NA sent a letter to my cousin stating we are committed to repaint the blemish on your 2004 350z. We are covering the costs out of our goodwill allowance. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to be of assistance.
The question is would you guys be satisfied with just a repaint of the passenger door? Would you guys ask for more or another new 350z roadster? What would you guys do? Thanks!

Man, that sucks. Sorry to hear that. :/

I think there was another picture on this forum of another Z on a dealers lot that had what seemed to be someone or something smearing the paint while it was still wet. I can't believe they could let something like that go through QA.

As for Nissan's response I think I'd be happy if they just replaced the door. It's only a paint problem, I don't think it justifies replacement of the whole car.

However, If my 04 comes in with one freaking smear, I'm going to refuse the whole car. I hate my dealer. Damn Bastards. I'll do what it takes to **** them off.

Actually, his car was scratched on delivery and then the touched up at port. It's done all the time...only problem is that silverstone is very hard to match.

I had some minor scratches on a Dodge Durango when I went to take delivery a few years back. The dealer agreed to get the scratches fixed, and had one of those mobile places repaint that area.

They did a very good job of matching the paint, but for the 4 years I had the truck, I could always tell, even after waxing, where the spot was touched up from the change in texture. My point is that if you are picky like me, it will bug you forever.

If they paint the entire door, the door won't match, just like the bumper covers and fuel filler door do now.

I had a blemish on my '03 if you remember 007. We spoke through email before. Anyway, dealer agreed to fix and put it in writing. When I brought it in a week later, the service manager said it was under the clear coat, I was pissed! Nissan sent out a paint inspector to my location. But whatever the hell was on my paint dissapeared. I think it's from using the claybar. If they can buff it out, fine. If they have to repaint, make sure it is a reputable place. Your cousin should be able to choose the shop since he just dropped $38K+ on a roadster. Good luck
