2008 window motor reset procedure
A few nights ago, someone hit 8 cars in our neighborhood. They broke the driver's side window out my Z... stole a check book, but left the radar detector.
So the glass guys came out the next day with a window that didn't fit. It was the right year, make, and model, but the curvature was wrong.
Today, the guy came out with the right window and got it in. But now the window motor is confused. It inches down when you open it, but won't inch back up when you close it. Auto doesn't work, etc. So it looks like we need to do the reset procedure. The glass guy didn't know how to do it. The internet is full of examples of how to do the reset procedure for the 2003-2004 350Z. But there's nothing out there for the 2008. We tried the 2003-2004 procedure, but it didn't work.
There's what looks like a reset button on the motor that's visible through an access hole that was covered with one of those black adhesive disks. I'm not convinced this is the right reset switch though. There's bolts in there that allow you to take off part of the interior door metal. Maybe the real reset button is behind there? Or maybe it's a different procedure for 2008? Does anyone have the info on how to do this?

Here's the procedure from the 2007 service manual page GW52. Maybe it'll help.
The picture in the manual shows the reset switch between the lower two fasteners that hold the motor.
1. With the door open, lift up and hold the power window switch until the door glass is fully closed.
2. Get inside the vehicle and close the door.
NOTE:
You need to close the door so the door switch is fully depressed.
3. Press and hold the reset switch. While holding the reset switch, press down and hold the power window
switch until the door glass is fully opened.
4. Relese the reset switch. Then, lift up and hold the power window
switch until the door glass is fully closed.
5. Open the door to release the door switch. The door glass should
partially move down.
CAUTION:
Do not use the window auto function.
Do not release the switch before the window is fully
stopped
There's a caution elsewhere in the manual about closing the door with the window all the way up. I don't know how that jives with the instructions here. I'd try to get a helper to hold the door switch in the closed position while I did step 3 with the door open, and then close the door to do the rest.

That's the procedure we did. When you open the door, the window drops slightly like it should. But when you close the door, it doesn't go back up. Auto up also doesn't work. So at this point, either that's not the reset button we're pushing, or something is broken.
I noticed last night that they didn't put in a nissan window. It's some after market window that doesn't quite fit. I can feel and hear wind coming in near the back of the window. I'm going to ask them to pull it and put in a nissan window.
I realized something else last night also. When the first guy showed up to put in the window, the hood of his van was open. He beat us there and started working on the car. Initially, he said he needed the key, but then started working on it anyway. I realized that he probably opened his hood to get to the battery so he could apply 12 volts right to the motor in the door so he could move the window without having the key. This is probably how the motor got confused. Since it's a stepper motor, i'm not sure how that would work. Hopefully he didn't kill the motor or a sensor or something.
