Default Speedometer periodicly doesn't work but can temp. fix

Here is the issue.

I start the car and drive it around and everything is cool.

At some point during the drive, after completely stopping and going numerous times, I'll come to a stop and when I start to go, the speedometer is stuck at 0 (both analog and digital).

This will go on for some time untill I shut the car off and restart it. Then its fine for a while untill the process starts over. I've shut the car off and restarted it both while sitting still, and driving and it works either way.

After searching I've noticed others have had speedometer problems, but not like this. I was curious if anyone had any idea why it would do this.

Bad speed sensor? Bad gauge cluster? Maybe something to do with the ecu?

Thanks for any help.

I've had this same problem a few times but with my RPM gauge. Not sure what the problem could be though.

sounds like a VSS if the digital one isn't working either... any SES light? usually it'll trip when a VSS goes bad, but not always.

I'm not sure what the VSS is.

But all my dummy lights are on because I've disabled pretty much everything. VSC, ABS, Airbag, and my SES light has been on for a long time cause the wires for my secondary o2 got pulled out on a bump or something.

I'll check the codes and see what I get. Thanks.

Then your Vehicle Speed Sensor is to blame. Replace it and you should have no more problems.
