Wet Start Problem
Hi,
Tried finding the answer on here but nothing that is the same as my problem...
So I have had my Z for about 6 months (2004 model 70,000km) and I have had 3 or 4 times were the car didn't want to start! on all the of the days with the exception of today it was raining so it was a wet start...only today was it dry (but cold -3)...
So what happens is I turn the key and the car starts cranks over, but doesn’t fire up, I stop turning the key and then try again, and after a little bit of turning over it starts to fire up, so I pump the gas pedal a little and away she goes, running perfectly...
Now I get a gas smell when I pump the pedal to start it, I assume that’s because I’m flooding it with gas, only other thing I had was today I had a puff off black smoke come out the exhaust (that only happed today none of the other times)...
So to recap the symptoms
Turn the key once it cranks no start-
Turn the key twice/three times and after a short time it starts to fire up-
Pump the pedal when it starts to fire and it starts up-
Most cases it was wet outside with the exception of today-
I have no other performance issue, still very fast, no hesitation when on the gas pedal (fuel pump problem surely you would get hesitation), and no engine lights-
Doesn’t happen often ever now and again-
I was told a bad coil pack could be causing the problem, does that sound right?
I assume something is on its way out, but can't figure out what! The battery is brand new, and the start motor sounds like it's cranking as it should...at first I said fuel pump but friends were like no electrical, probably coil pack!
Please let me know if you have any answers I want to get the problem fixed with out breaking down somewhere...
