Nissan Engine Recall... Z included !!
There was a recall on the Bose amplifiers for the touring models already. Also many TSBs, which if you have the problem ends up feeling like a recall. I am not experiencing any issues with this particular sensor that I know of and I have an early production car as well, VIN# is around 1000.

Here is a link to the recall info that everyone is talking about........
Looks like they kept putting those sensors in all the up through the last '03 models were off the line.........the same as they did with the crappy Bose amp.........then in June '03, with the 2004 model builds, they put in a better sensor. Why do they do this I wonder.
The recall affects all the cars listed on page 2 of this link from 1998 through May of '03 (final build month of '03 models)

While my car was at the dealer (for it dying again while driving, and they replaced my MAFS) my dad told them about the recall and showed them a print out about it, and it clearly stated 350z. Dealer told them that they must have meant the 300Z, not the 350
I have been through a recall with my wife's Tahoe. The head rest could pinch your finger if pushed a certain way. Never knew it until the notice came to me in the mail Then I go out and sure enough after years of ownership I did it on the first try. Hurt like a ****! Anyway, they send you a letter in the mail. Even if you have sold the car, you end up getting one. It will tel you to call the dealer to schedule an appointment or to send the card back to them stating you sold the car. We ended up getting two letters because we delayed going in. The recalls are serious and the governement has specific guidleines that need to be met. Certain percentages have to be met and they need to show they made every effort to reach you.
Relax, the card will be in the mail soon. Dealers know nothing as of yet.

I got these from a friend of mine...

TOKYO -(Dow Jones)- Nissan Motor Co. plans to recall a total of 2.56 million vehicles sold in Japan and overseas due to faults in the engines, the automaker said Thursday.
The firm expects to book a Y15 billion-Y16 billion recall charge this fiscal year through March, but it has no plans to downgrade its earnings outlook for the current year, it said.
Nissan will recall about 1.03 million vehicles in Japan and 1.53 million vehicles sold in the U.S. and other countries.
Japan's ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said the number of vehicles Nissan plans to recall in Japan represents the country's second largest recall after the 1.04 million vehicles Nissan recalled in May 1996.
The automaker added that the recall is already factored in to its earnings forecast for this fiscal year through March.
In mid-October, Nissan said it expects a group net profit of Y495.0 billion for the full year, with an operating profit of Y820 billion and sales of Y7.450 trillion.
Nissan will recall 23 models, including the Sunny (sold overseas as the Sentra), the Skyline (sold overseas as the Infinity G35) and the Fairlady Z ( sold overseas as the 350Z).
Of the 1.53 million vehicles to be recalled overseas, Nissan will recall 700, 000 vehicles in the U.S., 460,000 in Europe and the remainder in other Asian countries, the Middle East and other regions.
Some of engines installed in these vehicles may not start properly due to problems with the sensors needed to count engine revolutions.
The sensor is made by Hitachi Unisia Ltd., an auto parts maker wholly owned by Hitachi Ltd. . Nissan adds the sensor to its engines during assembly.
The two companies will check whether the sensor problem was caused when they were produced by Hitachi Unisia or when the engines were assembled by Nissan.

Tires are a minor problem that is usually fixed by going with a better wear rated tire more than anything, the transmissions are just grinding once in a while, there is a fix for it, and I think some people just aren't too good at driving the manual.
If your motor dies on the hwy people could die on the hwy. That is how recalls work. Still funny?
