350z Recall, Faulty Engines That Fail To Start
FYI Guys,
TOKYO (AP) — Japanese automaker Nissan Motor is recalling 2.6 million vehicles worldwide because of faulty engines that may fail to start. No injuries or accidents linked to the defects have been reported.
Japan's No. 3 automaker announced on Thursday a recall of 1.0 million vehicles in Japan and 1.5 million vehicles overseas, including 700,000 in the United States.
In Europe, 460,000 vehicles will be affected, it said.
Nissan will recall more than 20 models, including the Altima sedan, Infiniti G35 luxury model, 350Z sports car and March subcompact, Nissan spokeswoman Keiko Hoshino said.
The engine problems are caused by sensors for counting engine revolutions that don't work properly, Nissan said.
Nissan expects to charge about 15 billion yen or 16 billion yen ($139 million - $148 million) against earnings for the recall in the fiscal year ending in March 2004.
But it is not revising its outlook for a group net profit of 495 billion yen ($4.6 billion) on sales of 7.5 trillion yen ($69 billion). It said the recall charge has been figured into the prediction.

Nissan/Infiniti plan to begin notifying owners of potentially affected vehicles in December requesting them to bring their vehicle to a Nissan/Infiniti dealer. In addition to direct customer contact (via mail), Nissan will post recall information on the www.nissanusa.com Web site at the same time owner letters are mailed.

Only 171 350Zs are affected by the recall (see link)

Unless you happen to be one of the first on the block to have a Z last year, chances are you will not be affected by the faulty sensor.
171 out of 30,000 Zs, not bad. Pretty much 99% of Z owners are in the clear!
