Default Help, car gas cuts off at full throttle

So i have a 2004 350z no engine check light, all i put was an aem air filter. The car can drive normally but when i accelerate at full throttle the gas cuts off at 5000 rpm's and 4500 rpm's in second gear. If i slowly accelerate to 6500 rpm's there is no problem. Since its not throwing a code and engine check light does not go on i have no clue what's going on. All help is appreciated.

What have you done recently to the car?

Could be:
No fuel
No air
No spark.

Did you replace the airbox with just a cone filter or did you do an oem style drop in filter?

Double check that the valve cover hose is secured tightly to the intake.

If everything is installed properly, try putting your oem box back in and see if you still get the issue?

If issue is still there, check out your spark plugs.....and maybe try doing the throttle body relearn procedure.

Hi Bikinilust, exactly what am I looking for on my spark plugs, i've heard this before but wasn't sure what to look for.

I will have to check the fuel pump and pressure next.

My guess is something with the filter and MAF. Try going back to stock to see if it re-occurs. If it does try the throttle re-learn procedure. If it still occurs, check the MAF for foreign objects.

Good idea, thanks for the other idea. I am going to check the MAF sensor as well. My buddy said I could switch it off his car and see if that fixes it. I am unsure about the throttle response procedure, do we have a link on how to do that on this forum?

Go with the easiest fixes first: inspect CAI, try replacing intake, check out MAF, TB Relearn, then check out spark plugs

If the spark plugs have brown streaks on the side of the white ceramic area, the plug most likely is blown n is not holding pressure....

Also by checking the spark plugs, you are able to see if the valve cover is leaking oil into the spark plug cylinder....

Ok, i don't know if anyone is still looking at this post, but I'm still having the problem. I was reading a post of Vas Z33 his post is the exact symptoms my car shows. NO cel, no funny idle, only problem is that when i floor it the gas bogs at 4000 rpm. His fix was that he changed his led taillights because it was drawing power from the ecu. I did not change my taillights, but I'm wondering if this same effect could be drawn from aftermarket HID headlights, I have a base Z without HID, so i recently purchase these headlights and along to go with that i bought a led parking light to match it. Is it possible the ballast is pulling power from the ecu? Or does this sound completely whack?

check to see if you have any burnt taillight bulbs.

switch back to the original parking light.

if that doesnt change anything, try swapping back your org. headlights.

Basically, trace your steps one by one to figure out if you did something wrong, or if something is going bad on your ride

Just to update this thread and in any case that someone might come across this. I thought it was stupid too, but I had a parking light out, as soon as I put the stock light back in the parking light bulb socket, low and behold the car accelerates like normal. I know, I might of gotten lucky, but I did this before i bought a new maf, throttle body, cam sensor, knock sensor. pedal positions sensor, and gas pedal assembly.

FSM says,
  • Harness or connector problem (The sensor circuit is open or shorted.)
  • Bad P0328 Knock sensor
Have you changed anything on the car lately?
