Catalytic Converter failure
I have a 2004 350Z Touring with 79,000 miles. Last week my engine light came on and after checking the code it was 0430 (Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold - Bank 2). So I took it to Nissan and they said one of my catalytic converter's failed and needed to be replaced. I was lucky in the sense that I was just under the 80,000 mile warranty so they replaced it for free. However, they gave me no reason for why the cat failed. I asked if my spark plugs could be bad or if I needed an engine tune-up and they said no, not until 100k. But everything I have read online says that a cat just doesn't fail for no reason and that it's a symptom of a larger problem. Should I be concerned that the problem hasn't been resolved, and that more problems will surface? Also, Nissan wouldn't replace the other cat because they said it hadn't failed. Should they have replaced both cats? I should also state that a few months ago my engine light came on and I needed an oxygen sensor to be replaced. And finally, for the last few months when I go to start the car, the cranking hesitates a little before starting. Any info that you can provide me with would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I had one replaced about two years ago. I've got another one that needs replacement before the warranty goes out. In both cases, the ceramic element in them cracked/broke.
In reading some posts about this a while back, one potential cause seemed to be related to tracking the car. At least that's what I associate it with.
I'm tempted to replace both with HFCs with metallic cores and be done with it.

My wifes car and my car had cats go bad in the same week. Dealer said it could be the ethanol or some additive in the gas. They had quite a few go bad. I also believe it was caused by gas as both of us re-fuel at the same station.
