Default auto temperature **** acting weird!

k so i get in my car after work on friday and notice the air isnt blowing even though its set on 'auto' (which is what i always leave it on). so then i turn it to 'off' and it starts blowing as if it were on auto!

so somehow while i was at work all day the 'auto' and 'off' positions decided to switch themselves! the **** turns fine like it always did, stopping in the notches by each setting.

and it gets worse... every time i start the car to get it to work i have to put it on auto then back to off. its really annoying.....

any suggestions?!

Anything happen that might have caused this? Do you have some accessories wired in as well (electronics, aftermarket audio etc.) ?

There's not much to the system really, there's the combo switch and the A/C amp behind the switches. A lot of these funky A/C issues can be attributed to the A/C amp.

nope, it was just sitting at work all day just like every other day. it worked fine that morning. i just have the stock cd player too.

its so weird, the speed variation settings work fine, its just the auto and off settings. would it be hard to change the a/c amp? i try to stay away from messing with wires on my cars

I have this problem as well, just started this year.
With the system turned off, the AC just turns itself on after a while?

Do you have it set to the Defrost mode? If you have it in the Defrost mode I believe the AC goes on automatically. Just a possibility.

i havent touched the defrost button since i got the car.

and yea when i first start it up the it will be off when its set on on off. so to get it to work i move it to auto (which slightly blows air) then move it back to off so it will work like the normal auto function

Got a buddy that will let you borrow his switches? They aren't hard to pull, swap in some known good ones and see if it functions normally.

Let me know if this works, its driving me CRAZY!
I was glad someone made a thresd about this.
No defrost mode, everything off, AC turns on by itself and blows at the highest setting?
Wont turn off either, I have to turn the fan to low and push the AC button off, fan still runs though.

problem fixed! i snapped the whole panel off and cleaned the connection with electronic cleaner. its just one ribbon of wires that goes into the controls via the typical white plug. ya cant miss it.
