2 mechanics have already looked for the ambient sensor connector - to no avail. Most likely it either got cut off (during front body repairs) or is hidden somewhere...
Can anyone help me pinpoint the location of the entire wire (end-to-end)? I would probably start looking behind the dash (pin 39 on the Unified Meter and A/C Amp) but wanted to know where to go from there.
Any ideas more than welcome.

Look at sticky at top of this forum about the Factory Service Manual. Or Google it. The one for your model year will have the proper wiring diagram and locations.

I'm looking at the service manual - it only covers the standard factory 'final' connections rather than the in-between wire - and if I'm reading it right (ATC-96), it only talks about ambient sensor harness connector E34 terminal 1 and unified meter and A/C amp. harness connector M50 terminal 39.
In my case the former is not to be found, so i need to either locate where it got cut off or put a new wire in place. For both options - a standard wire location will come in handy.
Hope this helps..

EDIT: Found the wire graph! For reference, all main harnesses are illustrated in the PG (Power Supply) manual. Now onto the real thing...
Quick question for those of you who can access the ambient temp sensor: does the sensor itself come with a harness or does it have a built-in socket?
Later, I will attach pix of the item I've received by mail to check if this is it, or if I only got the half of the item
